What do you think is up with the shock towers not having a pass through. Maybe I'm not versed in suspensions enough but I've never seen a mount point without a passthrough.

Notice how aggressive the shadow is at the top of the shock mount in the assembly line picture?

Anybody have any insight for me?

I suspect those pass-throughs are not formed into the casting, but instead later punched/cut into the casting

On that view, these castings are either tests/waste and will never have the shock mount passthroughs punched, or they're just not yet done being processed/prepped

OR

the suspension on production isn't actually being transferred to the castings, but instead to the SS skin.

think about it

not too much, i want it to be super possible

on the official photo from Q1 earnings, agree that shadow appears artificially overlayed. becomes more apparent when you manipulate the photo away from shadows:

As for the castings at giga-texas, i do not believe the passthroughs are in the moulding, but instead punched out post casting. Here's a Model Y front casting, not yet with passthroughs:

couldn’t begin to imagine what sort of surprise worth hiding would be located (or would fit) there
On second thought: could that location evidence some tell-tale sign of steer by wire, or the absnce of steer-by-wire?

Doesn't make a tone of sense given the location, but i suppose possible that something small enough to fit in this location would be recognizable as steer-by-wire enabling/excluding

that may be the sort of thing Tesla would mask off in the released photo

From the NZ winter test unit with Frunk open, you can see the panel attachment bracket and the interior wheelwell of the casting. I’m guessing this Frunk is trimmed out just yet, to cover up these giblets.

In this other shot, and absent trim, one can more clearly see the location of a back wall of equipment/giblets (red arrow) in the Frunk, in relation to the wheel well (green arrow)

it’s possible and indeterminate whether this visible back “wall” of equipment and giblets is testing-purposes only extra sensors etc., forward of where the production Frunk wall would be.

but to the extent it is or is not (and instead this is standard production equipment simply exposed due to lack of trim), this rough location of a back wall of giblets is consistent with rough estimates earlier in this thread regarding the location of back wall of the frunk

somewhere between these two alternatives

In either event, roughly confirming the Frunk does not extend back to the dashboard as some seemed to hope(ium)

With the new BIW photos from GFTX, together with the post immediately above RE the NZ photos of the frunk equipment, feeling increasingly confident regarding my earlier estimates of

(A) Firewall location (+/-), and

(B) that the frunk will terminate forward of where the glass meets the hood on the exterior of the vehicle

that said, the NZ photos suggest the frunk could be wider (depending on the 'depth' of trim installed on either side of the frunk, interior to the panel mounting bracket
