About a foot of snow down so far on Thanksgiving I cleared the truck 4x today and it keeps dumping. Picture doesn’t do the storm justice at my high elevation.

Drive around the dirt roads to test out the Duratrac RTs and man - this thing was unstoppable! For a fairly heavy snow it just pushed through everything! I had to jack it up to go over some mounds and snowplow walls.

i am unsure how it’ll do on ice but in big snow, yah the duratracs with the truck in slippery was better than I hoped! (I’m comparing it to a G63 Benz 2020 always and yep - it’ll keep up, just without the sympathy of an exhaust note)

I was able to go out in the 15" of snow post storm and test the truck a bit more. It did great. I put it into some usual spots that are difficult on my property, like the side of my dirt road which fills with snow with mud and ice underneath. It got stuck, but then "slippery mode" got it unstuck. I once had to engage the rear differential locker to get out of spot. It doesnt look like I was able to get all four wheels moving at once when slippery and rear differential locker was engaged.

Id say the truck is good enough but I might still use my full diff-locking other suv when it is horrific out and certainly at night time (or get blizzaks). Also, I couldnt test at night as I couldn't get any lighting down due to the snow and ice build up on my lights. I started another thread about that here:

As a fellow Vermonter about to take delivery do I go straight for Nokians or Blizzaks and deal with the 1" smaller tire?

I’m trying to figure out the same thing. Did a lot of research. From what I understand, Durotracs are great in deep snow, but that’s about it compared to a winter tire. You need big gaps in treads to best deal with deep snow. The tire compound will get hard when it gets cold just like any other none winter tire, so the sips bite less as the temperature drops.

Snow tires will perform better in packed snow and ice, especially the colder it gets, but won’t do as well as Duratrac in deep snow. That said, I’d love to see them pitted against winter tires in a controlled test.
