Yes exactly! You get about half the range with a relatively light towing in a very flat city.

I also charged it to 90%. Guess should have charged it to 100%
Yes half is correct for any electric vehicle.
For local towing from 120-140 miles, you will be fine. i you need to go further, get a diesel.

I wish Tesla would come out with a 200kWh pack option (plus the range extender....maybe 50kwh extra) for those who either want to tow or have real world >500miles without towing.
That should have been the AWD for the price of the Cyberbeast. Profit….

The minute people start to realize these are Sports Trucks able to tow the sooner they will leave the line to go buy an ICE work truck…

Most work trucks never tow.

Most towing is in-town.

??‍♀

How is it not a work truck?

The amount of truck owners nationwide that tow toy-Haulers, horse trailers, or tow over 200 miles daily/weekly is a lot smaller than the “Ford tough” commercials lead you to believe

I just towed my boat (2500lbs) into the mountains and back. The truck did fantastic!!!! Started at 100%, got up to the reservoir with 70%, and back to the house with 53%. Am very pleased.
Why is Chris90702L tow stat so contrasting with cyber_moonlight ?!

Thread title should say tows as expected instead of saying horrible. The range cuts into half, and that’s primarily because of the drag. You would get the same towing range with similar setup on other EV vehicles as well. If you tow something that’s very aerodynamic, such as Airstream, then the range might be better. None of this is a surprise to me.

Until pull through chargers are everywhere, Cybertruck is meant for only city limit towing. I think majority of current CT owners fall into this category. Nobody is buying CT now to do 200+ miles of towing in a single charge!!

I tried explaining to people in the other thread that CT, or any EV for that matter, will struggle with range while towing. Even if you double or triple the battery size, it’s still going to struggle!

Compared to ICE, EVs don’t have much energy on board and thrive on efficiency. When you add weight and drag, it’s like filling an ICE vehicle with 1/4-1/3rd of a tank of gas!

More or bigger batteries isn’t the answer we’re looking for. That will just add weight and push you close to 10,000+ lbs. Not to mention adding 10s of thousands of dollars more in cost to an already expensive vehicle.

What we need are more energy dense batteries. That’s probably the 2030s or beyond. You can’t beat physics!

So you didn’t even fully charge, and you still finished the trip? Sounds like a success story ?‍♂

You towed a giant umbrella with those ramps sticking up. You'd get half your range no matter what you were driving.

-Crissa

PS, Drive slower, is all I can say. Get a trailer that stows the ramps instead of making you pay for it in range.
Yeah, maybe should have gone for the
H&H 24' Deckover (Deckover Trailer)
From the same place.

I get that cybertruck fan boys on here defending the tow range and saying oh I should have done this and that… I appreciate @mongo even checking the place I rented the trailer from… I needed something without rails so I can load what I needed so this is the only option.

I drove to the supercharger in the morning. Charged up to 90%. Then went about 15 miles and picked up the trailer. Drove about 30 miles and loaded my haul, drove back to the super charger (probably another 30) miles, had to disconnect the trailer and charged up again to 90%. Then drove about 50 miles to drop off the load. Drove back about 40 miles to a supercharger and the car was telling me I would arrive with -4%. Charge. I risked it and managed to get to the supercharger (it was a nerve racking experience especially when you’re in the middle of nowhere).

I love my truck. But when it comes to hauling it sucks! Plain and simple. If all EVs get half the range when towing then they shouldn’t be putting a tow hitch on those damn things

Because one was more aerodynamic than the other. Also, one was probably on the freeway and the other on a regular highway with a lower speed.

It all comes down to aero. Those vertical ramps and walls are just eating your range. I'm baffled why the ramps don't stow under the deck in the wasted space between the axle and the underside of the deck.

How much did the Ramps eat into my efficiency? 10% maybe?

and @chris90702L said he drove “into the mountains” I was doing mainly freeway driving in flat Houston!

Sounds like I have a defective battery! ??
