I have my pickup scheduled for Monday 5/20 at 12:30 pm. I am going to have to bring my 5 month old with me and I was wondering how long the pickup process takes?

When I have purchased a car from a traditional dealership it has been a 2-4 hour long ordeal. I'm that won’t be the case with my CT delivery.

When did you received your VIN? How much notice did they give you from the moment they reached out to schedule? Did you get to choose your date?

I received my VIN on 5/7 and currently on vacation now And quite far away. I hope I get to choose the delivery date. ?

Typically at Tesla (for model S, 3, X, Y), you’re in and out very quickly. They aren’t trying to up-sell you on extended warranties, VIN etching, stem lube, etc like a legacy dealer.

However, there have been recent reports on here about longer waits due to short staffing levels and/or the CT needing more attention at delivery.

FWIW, I think you should be OK with the 5 month old...I wish I could’ve gotten a ride in a brand new CT at 5 months haha!!

The purchase experience is the best part of owning a Tesla (we purchased 2). We were in and out within 30 minutes both times.

You won’t have to wait in line for the dreaded finance room where you are pitched overpriced extended warranties, paint protection, carpet protection, nitrogen filled tires, oil change packages, etc.

TIP: arrive to your appointment 45 minutes early. Your truck should be staged for pickup and you can take this extra time to perform a thorough inspection of the exterior.

Counter-point, not having a traditional dealer is the worst part about owning a Tesla. Buying a Lightning was a 10/10 experience. My purchase of my M3P was a 5/10 and my CT is a 2/10. The hoops you need to jump through and lack of service is why Tesla will never see mass adoption across the U.S. Mass adoption regionally yes, but huge holes where there are unfortunate barriers to owning and ongoing servicing will exist.

Note, it's a completely different experience depending on your state. Live in California? Seems they do a pretty good job. Live in a state where Tesla won't go through the expense of getting a dealer's license? Their cheapness is hurting you badly as a consumer.

I live in an affluent area where the act of getting a Tesla is a challenge. There'd be 3x as many Teslas on the road, likely X/S, if they were just easier to get. As-is, no one wants to deal with the lousy experience and goes to the Porsche/Mercedes/BMW dealer down the street that lays out the red carpet.

Long story short, your experience varies widely depends on where you live.

When we bought our S here in Austin a couple years ago. It wasn't a great experience at all.
1. Gave us address of a large church lot down the road to show up at. Showed up in Uber, walked around to find the car (1000s cars in lot).
2. Found car, hit accept delivery to unlock open car, required it seems to get in it. It was freezing cold out.
3. Unlock didn't work. Had to get Tesla support on phone. Call SC, they had to call another team, etc. Took them 30 minutes to get the car to link to app finally to unlock.
4. No in person help at all. If any issues, supposed to take pics of it and report around that moment since was driving far home. Car was also a bit dirty from city outside it seems overnight or so.

I think for me it would have been fine, but the tech glitches didn't make it good by far in our case.

I received my VIN the day before I left for Europe…I reached out to the service center and they said as long as the truck wasn’t on site yet that they can work with the date, so message them ASAP.

The duration of your delivery event typically depends on 3 things:

1. Time and day of the week. Although service centers deliver 7 days a week, deliveries made on Sundays(not recommended) are ran by a limited amount of staff. Therefore it may take longer especially if your delivery time is behind others.

2. Staff efficiency at your chosen service center. Depending on the number of delivery specialists at your location and their knowledge of answering questions or addressing delivery issues, this may expand your delivery time.

3. Your level of scrutiny during delivery. Most Tesla delivery events can take as little as 15 minutes since most paperwork can be completed ahead of time. However your level of scrutiny on your new Cybertruck can drastically add to your delivery duration. I took a delivery check list and went over as many details as possible during delivery to ensure the specialist took down all notes for Tesla to address. But this is personal preference. I spent around 2 hours on a Sunday delivery; Tesla did not try to kick me out for the time spent.

Was only like a 30-45min process for me when I picked up my truck a few months ago.

most of the paperwork you’ll have already finished in the app so signing the few remains wasn’t a big deal in my experience

enjoy your truck!!

I got my VIN on 5/5 and I got my text to schedule on Friday. When I went to schedule in the app I only had the option to pick 5/20 at 12:30. I spoke with another person here who called and was able to reschedule his pickup date.

15 days notice I can work with. Even 5 days notice would work as I get back from vacation mid week.

Do you spend 2 hours with a checklist for every car you purchased at dealerships too? I bet they love you.

Make sure you go with a 100 point checklist and don't forget the magnifying glass. You must go over every square inch of the car before you accept delivery. Plan about 2-3 hours for your inspection.

I could never go back to a traditional dealership. Granted I'm in Florida and have a Service Center near by but both my Model S six years ago and my recent Model Y were flawless deliveries. That and the fact my Model S never really needed servicing in six years with the exception of a 12 volt battery which they came out to my house to replace. During our recent Model Y purchase we were in and out well under 30 minutes.

The key is having everything lined up ready to go before you get there. Now the Cybertruck is new so I expect to give mine a closer inspection and make them note anything. Mine is supposed to be here at the end of the month hopefully it goes as smooth as my first two deliveries.
