DMV ALTERNATIVE FUEL FEE

Anybody have any information and more importantly, are we stuck paying this DMV fee next month? I just received in the mail my "ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLE FEE" notification effective October 1.

You can fight it, because it is possibly unconstitutional, but it will likely cost you more in attorney fees unless you can find a pro bono attorney willing to take it on for the cause. Imagine the uproar if all gas car owner suddenly got charged a flat fee which was more than what they have been paying in taxes and not based on their actual usage.

I paid over $1k in lovely state of handouts - NJ... They also further de-incentivized buying an EV by doing away with the tax break - there used to be no taxes on EV purchases and now you pay full tax. Plus that whole fiasco with the turnpike removing Tesla chargers to switch to the ever reliable applegreen chargers. They really care about the environment though (also known as Dollars) and someone has to pay to keep the roads maintained, except for the potholes on every block.

Here in DE, got my card notification in the mail just like you. We're stuck paying the fee effective Oct 1st. For vehicles below 6000 lbs it's $110/yr per vehicle on top of the yearly $40 registration fee per vehicle so a total of $150/yr. I've registered my Model YP for 7 years ($280 max for a new vehicle) then it's just a flat $110/yr

For vehicles above 6000 lbs it's $150/yr plus $76 registration fee so a total of $226/yr. My CT is registered for 7 years so I'll be paying the flat $150/yr

The fees are being collected to offset the state $0.23/gal gas tax (collected for the transportation infrastructure fund) that's not being collected due to the alternative fueled vehicle

We pay $200 annually in Ohio when you get your tag renewal. If you renew for three years you pay $600. I am happy to pay it. They need it to keep there roads in good shape. Well they try anyway. If there was no tax then the roads would be awful

I wish it was that easy, I do exercise my vote, but it doesn't make much of a difference in this state. As for running for office, I have 0 interest in being a politician.

Unless one thinks a declining share of ICE drivers should foot the entire bill, the money for road construction/maintenance has to come from somewhere.

'Course, if the funding falls short, and that smooth tarmac at the end of our driveway falls into disrepair, the Cybertruck has pretty nice off-road features!
