Exactly. They don't innovate for a years, but when they finally do because they have to, problems. Look at the refreshed Tundra and Tacoma.Toyotas are engineered like something you could buy in the 90s. And they cheap out on basic materials like steel or at a minimum fail to do proper QC. See all of the lawsuits over frame rusting that they have dealt with in the last 20 years. If your quality reference is simply making something that is reliable you’re not discerning functional differences. Companies that make new stuff will have problems. That’s the reality. Toyota is a conservative company. Many of us aren’t going to sit around waiting for them to “innovate”.
People shit on the Tesla but they innovate constantly. Yeah, the Toyota's are reliable before the refreshed, but the previous gen 4runners, Tundras were terrible, slow, bad mpg.
