Glue dots on top (yellow circles), Tesla likely followed the manufacturer guidance. Top side first, then FETs (and micro) on bottom.

Glue like that could also just be there to stabilize the component between pick and place and reflow soldering, or during use. With only small glue dots I'd bet stability only. Most glues loose strength when heated, so more is needed to hold a heavy part in place during soldering, and operation while hot. If I knew which glue was used I could look up its properties to tell how it could be used.

Edit: Yeah, things get complex. Also: I ran across a discussion on the power topology in the PCS2, but Linked wants me to join to see the full discussion.

For all we know, there is a line of glue across the width of the part. My search said 1kg/mm² area for reflow specific glue.

Just wondering if you usually do bigger recharges such as from 20% to 80% or smaller ones such as from 50% to 60%
Mostly smaller ones, from about 50% to 60% to 80%, but maybe 2-3 times a months from 20% to 80%.

So, I’ve been reading about the PCS failures all over X recently. Got home this morning, plugged in the truck to top off from 60% to 80%…at 76% I got a notification on my phone that charging had stopped. Went to the driveway, unplugged and replugged….still no charging. Got in the truck and did a soft reboot…still wouldn’t charge. Then I noticed the errors.
Scheduled an appointment and got a message from the service center stating the parts aren’t available immediately and I would be contacted when I can schedule a repair appointment. I asked how I would charge the truck while waiting and have not heard back yet. This is wildly inconvenient in a litany of prior inconveniences.
Why do I love this truck so much when it just keeps kicking me in the balls?

I just got the same problem today. I contacted Tesla and at least Tesla gave me free supercharge until it is resolved.

PCS Teardown short

Someone made a video on what the PCS looks like inside. Doesn’t look like it failed yet. 2018 Model 3 pcs had a burnt smell from exploded capacitors inside the module.

It faults on a health check. Ideally, that catches issues before a visual (scorch) level failure.

I suspect this is why there's been a rash of reported failures. A software update improved the health-check, which is now finding PCS modules that were on their way to failure but hadn't actually exploded yet.

The inevitable happened to me. Got the dreaded “charging stopped” message overnight and the error message on my screen to schedule service. FS AWD from July 2024.

question for everyone: I’m going to be out of state for 10 days next month. If I don’t get this thing fixed I’m worried the battery will drain completely by time I’m back or low enough where I won’t be able to make it to my nearest supercharger (20 minutes away). What are my options??

Charge to 80% and use the Low Power Mode. You should be ok.

Also noticed my PCS2 was reporting temps of over 99C at 48A, dropped the charging down to 32A and it hovered arround 70-78C, then at 24A it was 50-55C

Has anyone else seen this? Buddys truck reports no data...Were thinking its on its last legs now.
