One of the problems with melting is that the water has to go somewhere.

If it's truly cold outside the vehicle, the water will just move a little and then re-freeze. It may not even leave the door seal (or flow up into other spaces).

With a Tesla, you tell it when to be ready to leave by. It takes care of charging, pre-heating, pre-defrosting.

They definitely do check these forums. I don't work for Tesla but I design vehicles and I check public and private forums related to the vehicles I design. On occasion I find reccuring complaints or requests for improvements and will implement them when I can or roll them into larger project scopes.

Using cabin heater, even with preheating will likely not worknat -40c. luckily at those temps the air is usually dry and is less often an issue. I hope Tesla engineers design all openings with this in mind.

Probably no self opening and closing feature. $$$$

The door unlatches and "pops" open partially. Then you open it, sit, and close the door manually.
I think you are right. Push and click, pop open. Push closed, click and lock like cabinet doors, but with a security feature obviously. Then again, what do I know?

I for one, am in the Keep It Simple Stupid camp. Who want's to take a Faberge Egg off-roading or even onto construction sites!
BTW, Elon calls the Model X a Faberge Egg.

My Landrover Discovery was like tiptoeing through desert — in high heels! Never anything less than Rubicon-capable vehicle offroad again.

Just this weekend a Nissan crosstrek cleared a trench thanks to the stiffness of its chassis. A ladder frame chassis would have dropped into that hole and stuck. Crosstrek floated above it with the remaining three wheels on terra firma. I was surprised at the outcome.

As someone who regularly took an 80s Honda Civic off-road, I find all this 'must be tough!' hilarious. And I have a friend who does all his farm errands in a Model X, so...

Of course, the Cybertruck will be more far capable.

Yup,yup, most "off roading" I see people doing is slightly rough dirt roads, I smashed around in an old mustang(i wanted to build a rally 67mustang at one point) even a miata to public lands and decently gouged roads.

Of course for real off roading with large rocks and deeper mud/water you need 4wd and clearance, CT will be great...Although it is large and very heavy :(

And I regularly took my 1980 Subaru 4x4 wagon 4 wheeling on the power lines, state forests, etc. It had the cylops light behind the grill emblem...... I was so excited when I got that working again!

I put a 1800cc engine and dual range transmission in that car, light racks front and rear, beefed up the suspension, big(ger) tires. The truck guys were always amazed, and probably annoyed, at where that little car could go.

Not my car, but same color and wheels. Mine had a roof rack system on top, too.

After success with ‘76 &’78 Subaru wagons, my father bought the new big body ‘81 Subaru wagon. It needed a bigger engine. His never ran right due to carburetor emissions and Subaru inability to overcome its problem complying in CA.

Sportwagons are a really versatile form factor. After the Subaru’s I would go on to buy a VW Sportwagon diesel w/DSG. Fabulous transmission behind a diesel. VW detuned the DSG behind its gas engines in its EOS which were a POS.

Hoping Tesla CT brings back the fun, thrill and vesatility of olden times!

So if your phone dies and cannot charge, you cant get in?
Model Y/3 already work via your phone, they have no key. As johnm says, Tesla gives you a key card. It's the size of a credit card. I carry it with me but have never really needed it.
