Makes sense. I'm assuming this e-mail was sent much earlier on in CT's development. It's essentially adding QA throughout all steps of the manufacturing program. This is what Toyota did with kaizen and then Total Quality Management during the occupation. This was the opposite of Henry Ford who would let vehicles pile up at the end of the line whenever re-work was needed.

All of the suppliers reading this email right now are either celebrating by how much they're going to charge to meet the updated prints (because they have a plan), or they're freaking out because they could potentially lose a big customer since they won't be able to meet "Lego specs".

I also wonder how many supplier quality engineers are going to use the same rhetoric... "If Lego can do it, so can you."

I have my doubts about the authenticity of this “leaked” e-mail. It’s too late in the game to send this out. Vendor contracts with specification/tolerances have already been signed.

For reference a human hair is 70 microns and Elon is demanding sub 10 micron tolerances? Highly, highly doubtful.

However, I am confident that vendors and the CT manufacturing leadership team will be under pressure to get the trucks near perfect right out of the gate.

That means all part dimensions need to be to the third decimal place in millimeters and tolerances need be specified in single digit microns. If LEGO and soda cans, which are very low cost, can do this, so can we.​

Big difference between mass production vehicles and 1 of a kind Space X Rockets. Not to mention cost and intended use.
Electronics and drivetrain, suspension is much more critical than a slight gap between door and frunk panels.

No body experience, but I can imagine the more rigid the door is, the harder it will be to get the door alignment right. And the CT doors will be rigid.
