Unplugged Performance makes some good stuff. I’m glad to see someone pushing the limits and making the truck better and stronger than stock. Serious truck owners are always looking to improve the strength and performance of their trucks. Yes the Cyber Truck as designed isn’t the best Factory Off Road Vehicle out there it is up to the the enthusiasts and aftermarket to push the limits and set the new trends.
Awesome job Unplugged!
I’ll be buying aftermarket performance upgrades from you as my stock stuff breaks and wears out.

I think Tesla knew the limit of this bolt. They wanted it to fail before the other more serious components. It is out of service and the truck can't be abused anymore. Replace the bolt and you are back on the road, but you stop abusing the truck.

Clever if you ask me. Designing every truck to run the Baja 500 would be crazy expensive.

I don't plan on abusing my CT so I am not worried. I will take it off road as a means of getting from A to B while trying like heck to avoid damage.
Steering is a pretty serious component.

Ford's and Chevy's break *all-the-time* off-road. But when a Tesla breaks, it's not suitable to be called an off-road vehicle. :ROFLMAO:

I come here for my daily dose of comedy.
There isn’t a single vehicle sold today from any major manufacturer that in stock form is fit for serious offroad use. Not one.

Yeah, that's just another way to prove the point I was making - that the Cybertruck is unfairly singled out as not being an "off-road" vehicle. I mean the Ford FX4, the Tremor and the Raptor trim levels all have off-road pretentions to varying degrees, but all will fail quickly if you do stupid things with them. Every vehicle has limitations and the Cybertruck is no different.

Further, I don't think anyone who buys a Cybertruck thinks they are buying a purpose built off-road vehicle, it's a full-size pickup truck.

I’d take it a step further and say anyone that buys an electric truck and thinks they’re gonna use it as a tow rig is delusional. EV trucks are gonna be more efficient at doing what 90% of trucks do 90% of the time, transport a couple people and a few things within 100 miles of their home. EV trucks will never be better for cross country travel in remote places or long distance towing.

People once said the same things about cars vs horses. If battery energy density improves enough, charge times speed up, and high powered charge stations become ubiquitous, EV's could be as good or better.

Maybe you don't realize that the majority of towing trips with 1/2-ton pickups are less than 60 miles and the Cybertruck has excellent towing dynamics and low cost of operation for a rig that can tow up to 11,000 lbs. You will pay a lot more per year to meet your business towing needs with a gas or diesel pickup. It only takes an average of less than 50 miles per day to accumulate over 18,000 miles of towing per year. If your truck averages 9 mpg while towing your equipment trailer around, that's a lot of fuel (2,000 gallons) and maintanence expense every year your business has to cover. Not to mention downtime when your truck is in the shop getting serviced. Year after year, it adds up.

EV trucks are great for local business towing needs of small contractors. And most towing trips are not cross-country. The Cybertruck has a well-rated tow hitch reciever for a good reason.

Right.
Every system has a weak point, and yes sometimes the designers will engineer the weak point so as to cause the least damage.

It makes no sense to use a bolt that's stronger than the part it secures.

Yep by first intentionally installing wheels with the wrong offset to snap it off first?

Even if they build some superior parts, will the next structure up the chain be able to handle it?

I seriously hope Tesla done their due diligence on off road suspension testing.

It's seriously looking like there are some issues.
oh, good to know it won’t snap with the OEM wheels/tires.

This isn't my truck but this happened to someone that brought theirs out to King of the Hammers the past few days. The rear-steering tie-rod broke. Supposedly the inner bolt to the rack is the culprit but I don't have the full details nor any extra photos.

Either way, sounds like the driver was having a good time and pushed the truck to the limits to try and find weaknesses. Mission accomplished?

Edit: Looks like the truck belongs to the Unplugged Performance team.

Give us a break! You take a $100 K truck and TRY to break it? You can do that with wreckers a quarter the the price! The CT is not an off road machine!
