So, I finally got out for my first trip towing with my CyberBeast and things were generally going about how I expected. Based on this hundred mile round-trip up from 2000 to about 9000ft my range looks like it’ll be somewhere between 120 and 160 miles towing my small “square drop-ish” kind of trailer.
I was planning for this post to be about that range and my experience, but I have to say I was floored by my discovery of a huge limitation that I’ve not seen anybody mention before.
You can’t go into off-road mode while you’re towing a trailer? WTF? Without being able to engage the various settings in off-road mode the CB just isn’t good enough off-road we saw that before the locking diff and other features were enabled.
I didn’t go to the main trails that I would normally go with my FJ and this trailer and thank God that would’ve been a really unpleasant surprise to get stuck somewhere that my FJ can easily traverse.
Many trailers these days are far more off-road capable than my little tiger moth but it can keep up with quite a bit so I’m just perplexed how did I miss this? Why isn’t anybody complaining about this I couldn’t be the first person to discover it? Has there been discussion about this being enabled in a future software update? What the heck!?
I’ve accepted the compromises that come with this rig in terms of range etc. I already came to peace with not getting the 500 miles that I really need so that I can actually tow to a location and enjoy myself for a few days and then come back to civilization But potentially not being able to get there at all was not part of the deal.
Not trying to be overly negative here but I am really just kind of stunned.
Photos didn’t attach for some reason …
EDIT: Workaround is just simply detach the connector and put the truck in off-road mode.
