Have Idra press parts started to be delivered to Austin?

Unless they used Air Freight to ship it immediately after disassembly, Tesla is not prepping for the main Gigapress, and has been pointed out to me previously, it’s too big to air ship the whole thing. As far as I know, they still haven’t poured the foundation for this thing. It takes weeks for the foundation to cure before they can load it with something as big as a Gigapress.

IDRA will soon or already has finished disassembling the press and will soon be loading it onto a cargo ship. From what I understand, they didn’t pour the concrete yet because they needed something from IDRA. My feeling is IDRA is wrapping up the disassembly and is shipping some essential bits or templates needed for Tesla to pour the foundation.

And that foundation is the most likely next step. They pour it now and in a month when the slow boat from Italy arrives, Tesla will be ready to drop that massively heavy chunk of steel onto the then hardened concrete pad. We have at least a month before we see the press squeezed into the Gigafactory.

The crates don’t look like they are from IDRA but it does look like they are clearing the storage area for IDRA components.

I'm guessing the delivered part is the CT front casting die, which should work in the 6kt press. Perhaps that's why they've stockpiled extra MY castings?

I'm still not sure that the 9kt press will be installed with the others, since the CT castings need to go to the opposite corner of the factory. However, installing the new press elsewhere means running gas lines, installing a chimney through the roof, etc.

Those are Model Y castings that were stored in the building. Go look at the Cyber Rodeo video and they show them. They would need to remove a ton of them to install another casting machine.

FYI Joe isn’t certain what is in the crates but agrees that moving the castings is a prelude to the new IDRA press components arriving.

They've been doing a lot of digging inside and concrete work. I would be willing to bet they've already poured the foundation... probably long ago.

Actually, I didn't think about using the existing 6k ton presses for the front of the Cybertruck but that really makes sense. It may be more heavy-duty than than the MY but may be within the capability of those presses. That WOULD actually explain why they'd want to get this far ahead on MY parts. From an efficiency point of view, it is not good to stack parts beyond the repair time of the machine making the parts. It's just not a good use of time to stack a bunch of parts. Imagine a design change or shortfall. You'd have to use all the "bad" ones that you have stacked around before you could introduce the "corrected" versions. Either that or scrap all of them. No, this was done intentionally to either make time for something else (Cybertruck parts?), prove output speed for future ramp-up, or supply another factory that doesn't have a giga-press (Hello, Freemont?).

Now, you've got me thinking about the "Why" behind the stockpile of castings.

Tesla had already ordered the large press before they finished the floor in the casting building…a long time ago.

it is true that they have been doing mysterious work at the south end but no one knows what that is.

by all predictions/guesses we should see the 9K-ton press arrive by September…wherever it is going to reside.

Could be. I seem to recall not long ago they peeked into the window and the foundation was still a big hole.

I was never quite clear on why they didn’t just finish the foundation when they were pouring the rest.
