Hello Forum, got a question for everyone.

The Starlink mini is on sale and we want one, we just want to make sure the 50gig per month plan won't get wasted on the massive uploads the truck does randomly.

Our goal:
We want to be able to use our phones in dead zones
We want to connect to the truck quickly over the app so we can see the live cameras and generally annoy people who are messing with it

Current situation:
The truck currently connects to our home WiFi so it's free to upload anytime
We connect our phones to the truck via Bluetooth.

I'm thinking we setup the Starlink and connect it to our phones via WiFi then continue to connect to the truck via Bluetooth. If we do that I don't think the problem of accessing the truck via app will be solved because the truck isn't connected. If we connect the Starlink wifi to the truck, the first massive upload it does will blow past the 50gig plan.

So, is it possible to setup the Starlink so we can use our phones is dead zones, access the truck via the app quickly and not allow the truck to use Starlink for huge uploads?

Just remove the Starlink wifi from the truck when you don’t want it to use it.

I’m lazy, I’d like an option where I don’t have to turn stuff on and off. ?

Option 2:
You can turn off data sharing in a Tesla vehicle by navigating to the touchscreen and selecting the following options:
  • Road Segment Data Analytics: Go to Software > Data Sharing
  • Cabin Camera Analytics: Go to Controls > Software > Data Sharing
  • Allow Mobile Access: Go to Controls > Safety

My Starlink has no data limit. I've used it from Canada to key west.
The updates take long because of no bandwidth. I stream everything over Starlink. It's lightning fast.
U buy half a system. U get half the speed.

Wait...There's a device your supposed to have to connect to for the unlimited plan?

Not everyone has $ to spare - I'd isolate the IP for sending or just turn off the reporting fuction until you are back home and connected to wifi.

Custom DNS entry for the Tesla upload server.

https://nextdns.io/ is free up to 300,000 requests. You could set it has the Starlink DNS and block the tesla upload servers.

Does anyone know the IPs for Tesla's upload servers. I've been trying to track down my data usage from Tesla but having some trouble doing that.

They won't have fixed IPs, since that type of infrastructure is on a dynamic cluster.
