It was my assumption that they wouldn’t attach a vin number to my account unless I had an active loan approval. Well I had a loan offer expire already and I started asking questions to my account support specialist and Tesla finance and apparently we should be waiting to apply for the loan until there’s a vin attached to the account.

I feel like the app is misleading because it states “finish tasks to avoid delays”. A part of me does not believe that a vin would populate without an accepted loan offer.

This is my first Tesla so I have zero experience with this.

Would love to hear other people experience with this

I made the same mistake, my loan is a 90 day loan so hopefully it doesn’t expire. Also my first Tesla as well.

Tesla told me not to apply until they said the VIN was ready. If you're an AWD order, I imagine there's a good chance the approval will hold until delivery. If you're a Beast, it will expire well before the delivery.

Yeah. seasoned Tesla buyers will know to not start the financing process or to insure a vehicle until a delivery date is set. Typically, vehicles are delivered within 60 days, so the app order flow steps are designed for that, so this is usually not a problem to complete the financing step early.

This is a bit of a special case with the CT. Tesla could and probably should tailor the app steps for orders of vehicles that are in initial production or have long order to delivery times.

I made the mistake and my loan approval expired 2 days before delivery. I had to re-apply, but thankfully, I got slightly better terms than the original approval.

Mine as well and it was almost 1% lower. The credit hit was very minor running two hard credit checks. A few points for me.

Mine expired at 60 days about a a week and a half ago. Didn’t reapply until today, when I got my VIN.

My offer expired last week, I had planned on waiting until VIN assignment to re-apply.
While waiting, I decided to change my trade-in status to yes. I have a 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 but was planning to sell privately because Tesla lowballs offers. However, I wanted a baseline cost since I get a sales tax reduction on trade in.
Anyway while filling out the trade in information, I get a text saying my financing is approved?? Super weird because I never hit the resubmit button.
