what issue would you expect? martian wheels said its totally legal and safe to drive with the full beadlock on.
This is Martian Wheels description right off their web page:
" With the ability to mount tires in 2 configurations, beadlock and standard, you have the option of using the same set of wheels for your off road adventures as well as DOT-compliant highway use. "

Even if the wheels had no bearing in an accident, I'm not into defending myself against moneygrubbers. Here is an excellent article on the legality of beadlockers. It's short, so read it all.

read the article, thank you for sharing. also watched several videos. it still just doesnt make sense to me. so having a tire just sitting on a wheel with nothing mechanical holding it in place vs. a tire that has 30 high strength bolts locking it into place, it would seem to me that the 30 high strength bolts would do a much better job. do you need to check your tire pressure and check that the bolt are tight like they should be? sure. you should do that with any wheel. it seems a lot more likely that the 6 bolts holding the whole wheel to the car would be at far more risk of coming loose and coming off. in fact my brother had one of his wheels on his cheroke just fly off after having new wheels put on his car, because they didnt bolt the wheel down correctly. fortunately the accident wasnt bad and the shop took care of the damage.

but again, to me, a beadlock wheel should, by the nature of how its held to the rim, be far safer at highway speeds, especially with a vehicle like the CT that has such crazy acceleration. they use beadlock wheels on drag cars for the same reason. and all military vehicles have beadlocks on them.

i just got an email from martian wheels after inquiring about the bolts for the beadlock ring. they said sorry we forgot to send those and apparently they are otw now. so make sure if you order them, you check for the bolts and follow up immediately if they arent included. no clue why they wouldnt put them in the box with the wheels.

Nice! I ordered the 20" wheels about a month ago, hopefully they come within a few weeks as I'll put the stock tires on the martians and i'm going to put nokian winter tires on the originals. How long did it take you to get them from martian?

@Maaz @sys700 - thanks you two for sharing your photos and experience. Any chance either one of you weighed the wheel + ring? I don't see it on their website. TIA!

I got the bolts for the rings and installed them yesterday. Honestly, I don't like it. They stick out too much, and the silver really catches your eye. It just looks wrong. I have an appointment on Saturday morning to mount in full beadlock configuration. One of the benefits of full beadlock is if you do have a blowout, the tire will likely stay on the wheel. Ignore the dirty garage...I have a plan to get the flooring done and completely redo it for my truck! :) As far as weight goes, they are pretty heavy. I think the UPS guy said they were about 50 pounds each, including the ring.

I will add that Discount Tire chipped the finish on one of my rims. They are going to cover getting it touched up, but I wasn't happy about it.

Yeah. Doens't look right with the ring sticking out like that. I love the rims but they look a little small. Anyone order the 20s in the same spec as OEM to fit the OEM tires?

I finally found a place that will mount the martian wheels in beadlock configuration. It's an hour and a half from my home. I'm planning on driving up there this morning to get it done.

I have some questions/concerns about winter corrosion and safety running them as beadlocks:
  • What is the max PSI I can run a beadlocked tire? I was reading online it is around 30PSI, which seems really low for the CT. I think TPMS will trigger slightly below that. Wouldn't this also structurally affect the sidewalls if driven long distances at this PSI?
  • I'm planning on taking my CT on a 2000 mile road trip in December, pretty much highway miles the entire way. Would it be safe to drive beadlocks for that long on the highway? Seems like I'd have to be checking 80 bolts at each stop to ensure there are no leaks. I'm inclined to use the original CT tires/rims on the trip (for safety and less maintenance), and reinstall the beadlocks when I return.
  • These are aluminum rims, and in the non-beadlock configuration, there is a ring of exposed raw aluminum. We have a lot of road salt up here in Michigan. Any aluminum rims I've run in the past get discolored if I drive them in the winter. So that is a major con against running them in standard configuration in the winter due to corrosion.
Starting to second guess my decision to buy these since I really won't be doing much off-roading.

If the beadlock is put on right, which shouldn’t be that hard to do, you should be fine. and you put some lock tight on a few of the bolts or all of them if your really worried. really don’t see the issue. Bolts shouldn’t just come flying off. Especially for just normal road use. Psi should be the same in either configuration. Technically it should be the better in beadlock config.

FWIW, with 20 inch rim, 35 inch diameter, 24 bolts it's >1,200 pounds of force per bolt at 50psi.
