Stainless is more work to maintain if you want a super clean looking vehicle. Plus people like showing off individuality. I'll probably wrap mine in a year or so.
I would have to wash my Model 3's every time I drove them (most of the year) if I wanted a super clean looking vehicle all the time. I settle for washing them every month or so.

In my experience, less than 50% of the American population like to show off in any obvious manner. Most people like nice things but have no real desire to show off.

It's not really debatable that a wrap with ceramic is easier to keep clean and to clean than Stainless.

You have to wash both of them, and it takes about the same amount of time to wash a stainless truck as it does one wrapped in plastic. And you have to be more careful not to damage the plastic wrapped one, yesterday I took my Cybertruck to the coin-op pressure-washer to do a quick blast off the bugs stuck to the hood. Since they had dried on, I had to hold the pressure nozzle 1/2" from the hood.

I don't think you want to risk damaging your expensive plastic wrap by using a pressure washer on it! It's amazing what you can blast off the bare metal Cybertruck with a pressure washer!

What is the official line from the wrap manufacturers on using a pressure washer on the wrap? The metal will last forever, the plastic is damaged by simple UV rays from the sun.

Not sure why you are being defensive. The wrap, especially a PPF one with ceramic coating, will stay looking cleaner, longer. That's the big thing...no finger prints, smudges, etc.

It's not for everyone, but it appears a large % of CT owners feel they need to wrap them. I've seen numerous people say after owning it for a week, they decided they had to wrap it. Almost all of them near me are wrapped. I don't plan on wrapping mine, but maybe I eventually do it?

I think if people had let the natural passivation process develop normally, instead of constantly using harsh chemicals to remove it, they would not have felt the need to wrap all that beautiful metal in plastic.

I'm not being defensive, I'm pushing back on the notion that the bare metal is fussy to maintain. It's super easy to maintain and it looks spectacular, iMO, compared to any plastic wrapped Cybertruck. Just my opinion. My observation is that some owners fussing with it has made it fussy. People don't know what they are doing. I'm trying to help fix that, not being defensive.

On the same lines, wonder why the Covid payouts were given to people who were earning up to 175k/year? In fact why the handouts for people who were still working and having jobs? The monthly checks should have only been given to people like restaurant workers and others who completely lost their income and were in a very bad shape. It was disappointing to see people getting Fed checks in mail who were comfortably working from home compared to others who were literally struggling to meet their ends.
I guess you never heard of the PPP program that basically gave 6 months of total payroll to every business owner and it was tax free! Many businesses were given millions including many in congress! Who really cares about the individual payouts of a few thousand, it was just a distraction to the big money being handed out

It's actually the opposite. I'm a business owner who chose not to participate in the PPP program due to many uncertainties and unknowns at the time. My CPA was unsure about the eventual outcomes and potential repayment requirements in certain scenarios. Fortunately, my business was not affected during COVID. That being said, I am aware of many business owners who exploited the program, leading to a significant cost for taxpayers.

While the PPP was launched with good intentions, it was poorly designed. This is why I maintain my original argument: the funds should have been directly given to individuals who actually lost their jobs.

That’s been my impression, too. The CT owners manual says to let it develop its natural patina. I don’t have my truck but I’ve been close to a lot of 304-ish stainless the last couple of years that just sat outside in salt air and looks fine to me.

Some RN117’s have started to receive FS invites already. Joe’s prediction might be spot on.

Tesla is milking every drop from the cow.
I think it's perfect. If they had said in the beginning "it will be a limited edition run" of 20,000, I don't think anyone would have complained. Also, as has been proven out, there are a lot of people that would gladly pay for the fully loaded Cybertruck to get it sooner (plus a relatively small "premium").

People always forget what EVERY OTHER car manufacturer does. They always bring out the most expensive model trims, and then, the DEALER really rakes you over the coals...for ZERO added value other than their greed!

While it could be September, June does make sense. It aligns when with they estimate orders that confined with the grey interior or core wheels would start delivering. Those are likely going to be the base/cheaper options.

My "problem" is that I have an unfilled (no VIN) foundation order in. I'm wondering how easy it will be to switch this to non-FS if I choose?
Same here. Ordered 12/30 + long-term stockholder but crickets from Tesla.

Or they might just continue down the line and high RN will get first dibs on the non-FS trucks.
So the people who were big fans of Tesla and put down a deposit on reveal night, nearly five years ago, should only have the option of paying over $100k for their truck or go to the back of the line. Meanwhile, people who decided to get a CT two plus years after the reveal should arbitrarily get to have the first opportunity to buy a more affordable option. An option which is closer to what was offered on reveal night, and which also may qualify for a $7500 federal tax rebate. Does that seem at all reasonable or fair?
