I am a little worried that maybe my hitch could rip off my truck now…
Has anyone actually verified that this second truck failed as WD claimed? Note: he even says it is "unverified" in his video. With the popularity of the first video, and CT based Schadenfreude trending like crazy, I'd think this would be all over the place rather than just magically appearing in WD's DMs.
The truck in the picture appears to have been rear ended but, I've seen no other indication anywhere that this was a towing related incident.
If anyone has seen the source of this, please pass it on.

The forged cast aluminum is prone to cracking/breaking under a sudden impact. Don't forget this fact!

The extruded aluminum, on the other hand, may lightly bend once. If bend again, it also would break & separate.

Moreover, it looks like the CT back alum frame is designed mainly to take horizontal impacts (drawing in post #3). Therefore, a vertical impact, depending on intensity, may first cause crack(s), then a breakage. If too strong, it would break at the first vertical impact.

In the light of this fact and the 2 breakage cases, a design improvement and a recall is inevitable.

I was in the waiting list and just received the e-mail that invites me to place the order. I was surprised, because I was expecting it in 6-12 months time. Now I understand why.

I am not placing my order until this "vital" issue is resolved, because I'm going to tow precious items, and I don't want to deal with lawsuits to get the trailer items to be compensated by Tesla (not to mention a life loss!)

My 2 cents...

"Forged cast aluminum" ? "Extruded aluminum may bend" ? Please invest in the Machinery's Handbook and read up on the aluminum alloys and processing methods.

I'm talking from my experiences. No theory, all practical. That's why I said "my 2 cents".

In any case, this issue is very serious and needs to be corrected. Until then, I'm not buying.

Besides the gap in your understanding of material science, you also seem to be a troll. Your profile says you have a Cybertruck, but here your posts suggest you don't have one. Have a nice day.

I don't own a Cybertruck yet. I said that I was on the waiting list, that I received an e-mail from Tesla to proceed with the ordering.

In the profile, the "Vehicles" section means to me that the models I'm interested in, not owned.
In fact, there was no way to own one in May 2024, when I joined the forum! No one here owned one in May!
And, it is required to fill the field.

I don't care what you think or say.
I've been to a Tesla showroom. I've driven it. I've laid a blanket on the tarmac and inspected the hitch connections to the Alum "chassis".

The truth is there: The hitch is prone to breakage. Period!

No offense but fact: Many people owned Cybertruck on May 2024.

Wait until you actually have one then you’ll have even more opinions to share. Or maybe you’ll never buy one but continue frequenting this forum for some bizarre reason while patiently waiting for theoretical recall and correction to occur. Not sure what you think your value is but it’s certainly less than what you think it is. If you actually had first hand experience with a failure or some scientific understanding of the engineering then you might blather on all day and it wouldn’t be pointless….

The main reason why I wanted this vehicle was its SS body, because I live near the ocean and my cars get "skin cancer" in 3-5 year time! The salty vapor of the ocean causes this.

Of course a new product would have problems. But I never expected a life threatening issue like this (tow hitch breakage).

So, I feel like to be cautious and wait. If you think that Tesla removed the Cybertruck waiting list (yes, you can order one now), I am not alone!

I am also told by the rep that the "one year resale ban" will be removed soon.
