They either hid the part where there are bolts, or this is from one of the builds that doesn't have it.
Is this confirmed? Newer builds have bolts attaching this piece? This was my main concern from this video cause I've read reports of that piece flying off in the highway.

A weakness in the body of the Cybertruck?

I missed that. Would you elaborate? I hate to think that a weakness I don't know about is going to rear it's ugly head at the most inopportune moment.

I think you're imagining things. If you don't care to share what you think is a critical weakness in the body of the Cybertruck, that's fine.

This video was great. He pushed the truck to it's limits by just being a lunatic behind the wheel to just destroy it and not really test it on how an owner who respects their truck would act. Seeing it do what it did shows it's bad ass. It did more and was put through a tougher test as it launched further, landed harder and was slammed around more than the Ford to really kill it. Ford couldn't get to the extreme punishing drops, slams, rams so not a good test for comparison. Let's see another vehicle drop off a ledge and land on it's hitch TWICE from 5 feet and see how that frame keeps it's shape and drive straight down the road. Let's go CT!!!!

and the first crash was driving it off the flat bed.
edited- doesn't appear to have hit the ground.
There is another stunt prior to the pipes where you can see the hitch was hit because it was full of dirt and grass.

Yeah, that was pretty shocking. I'm guessing they didn't model pulling on an upward angle like that. Or, if they did, not pessimistically enough.

But, yeah. Ouch.
Don't forget the CT fell off the concrete tubes, banging the ass-end pretty hard on the way down. Then, when trying to pull the Ford down, they were basically pulling it further into the groove that it got stuck in - they were pulling against the concrete tubes as much (or more) as on the Ford. So there was a lot more going on there than merely towing a very heavy load. But yeah, cast aluminum is certainly going to be more brittle than steel.

100% - If anything, this video reassured me that nothing I do is going to trash my Cybertruck.

The frame snapping is shocking to me... I guess there really is no replacement for the steel body-on-frame design

Now I really am starting to consider the Silverado EV, with its frame design being another checkbox. I'm RN1151XXXX for a FS Cyberbeast so I still have time to decide

It's coming down to a choice between the Cyberbeast's looks+performance versus an actual EV truck
The rear casting broke when he drove off that 5-6' diameter culvert and the hitch took a direct hit after dropping that distance. It was already broken at that point and only fell off when he tried to snatch the ford off the same obstacle.

Keep in mind that they have done truck sled pulls with this truck and bumper to bumper pulls with diesel trucks and the hitch has never been an issue.

Its a longer video, but WhistlinDiesel subjects both trucks to brutal punishment. None of this was reasonable use, but it was interesting.

Highlights:
  • A chain attached to the tow hitch snapped the aluminum mega cast apart.
  • Jumping took the vault cover off its tracks

I'm thinking it was damaged by after he went over the logs then after he went over the cement tubes at the end. It was probably pre damaged then he hooked it up and snaP!
