I work as a software engineer for a steering OEM parts provider. We have a test track that has various surfaces, the roughest being th cobble portion. Basically large rounded rocks 8-10 inches in diameter. We weren't directly studying the ZF steering units but I got access to have some fun.
SWEET!!!!

Huh, I haven't experienced that. Only issue we've had is it dropping power if it slides on a snowy right angle turn. Do you drive in Beast or Sport (what we use) mode?
I drive in Beast. If I'm paying $20k to get Beast mode, I'm driving in Beast mode.

I had my inverter recalled and it only took a day. They did the inverter, wiper motor, rear sail trim recall, and a half baked lightbar install all in a day. I wonder if they’ll contact me about the front motor replacement.

I too only drive in beast mode (unless I’m off-roading or towing)! Likewise, the plaid never comes out of plaid! The vet is never out of Z mode! I don’t buy fast cars to drive them slowly!

That said, I definitely experience the clunk from the CB in the exact same spots in my neighborhood and none of the other vehicles exhibit this behavior.

I have had an AWD for over a year with about 20k on it. I had both my inverters replaced, once on failure and once on recall. During the recall, Tesla replaced the inverter that failed about a month prior again. Right now, the CT has been running great, and I love driving it. I always think about what I would get if I had to replace it today. I lean towards Rivian, but I think I would just get another CT. Tesla just checks off so many of the boxes that are important to me.

I thought my CB would be my last rig, but, there’s a number of compromises - not the least of which is my concern of taking it into the wilderness and leaving it unattended - that have made me have to rethink that.

It’s never going anywhere (it’ll be in my garage when I die); but, right now, I’m strongly considering getting a Scout for my over-landing adventures. Because of the extended range and peace of mind that it won’t be molested when left unattended.

UPDATE: In fact, I just reserved my Scout Traveler right now! I think it’s going to be the right choice.

You are NOT helping me want to save money here! I have looked at the Scout a number of times. It feels like it would be fun.

My great-grandfather [who I still had with me until I was 10/11] worked for International Harvester, also, so I’m feeling a powerful draw towards it!

Hopefully, this and my Aptera will be my last two cars! ?

Congratulations on ordering a Scout! But for me, the CT will be the last time ordering a first year model. It hurts a little everytime Tesla offer incentives to purchase a new CT.

Mine was built in May 2024, but my VIN shows no recalls.

My try motor is a May 2024 build and does not show in the recall. However, I had the exact same failure as Kyle at about 2000 miles. And under pretty much the same conditions. As far as I know, they only replaced the inverter that failed.

Fortunately, I’m not part of this recall even though I’m at the tail end of the affected date range. If you haven’t checked here’s the description of the issue Kyle has and link:

“Tesla has issued a voluntary recall on certain Model Year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles produced within the build dates from November 6, 2023 to July 30, 2024, that are or were equipped with metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET) in the drive inverter. The affected population includes vehicles equipped with Inverter Part number family 1802305 containing MOSFET part number 1530063-2A-B.”

https://www.tesla.com/support/recall-cybertruck-inverter-replacement#:~:text=Inverter Replacement Recall-,Tesla has issued a voluntary recall on certain Model Year,MOSFET) in the drive inverter.
My Inverter had to be replaced a few month again, when my rear motor suddenly stopped functioning. I was still able to drive fine with my front motor as long as I did not go over 65 MPH.

Ughh. Rough week for CT on YouTube. Didn’t wanna start a whole new thread for this but Kyle managed to kill his truck completely driving around with only the front motor and now he wants Tesla to buy it back.

Why keep using it as your daily driver when it’s already experiencing a major system fault?

Is there a definitive way to know whether you’re impacted?
