Right! The motors lift the frunk lid, but the struts offset the weight. If the struts are weak, the motors might lack sufficient torque to pop the striker from the latch.This is the issue I had and fix for it with my frunk.
Pneumatic struts get weaker in the cold. In BTTF, Marty kept hitting his head on the sagging DeLorean doors because they had sprayed the car with liquid nitrogen lol. My DeLorean doors open slowly in the winter, but take two hands to close in the summer hahahaha
The bump-stops might perform a similar function by having a "springback" effect, but they exist to get the frunk lid flush and snug.
