Hi all,

I have a very early FS CT and have been loving it. With the ability to transfer the FSD to a new cybertuck, I'm very tempted to trade mine in for a new one. The trade in offer is higher than what I owe which is awesome (holding it's value really well). The main reason for wanting to update it to a new truck is to reset the trucks warranty while I still can transfer FSD and to get a truck with a newer PCS version (although these still can fail but the failure rate seems to be lower). My truck has 15000+ miles on it and I haven't had a PCS failure yet (I have had to deal with the various recalls and my inverter failed around 6k miles). I only have about 1.5 years left on the warranty that would cover the PCS failure, but mostly I don't like the idea of possibly being stranded because based on the various threads here it happens without warning and randomly. I absolutely love this truck and want to stick with it, but wondering what everyones thoughts are on trading a low VIN (700's) FS for a new 2026 model and transferring my FSD. Oh and not that this matters a bunch but my payment would also be $500 less a month.

Alternatively I'm eyeing a new model x which comes with the luxe package and is capable of towing our trailer (used to have a model x and it towed it fine). But I think giving up the CT would make me feel dead inside, so this option might not be feasible.

Feedback is appreciated!

you're late. FSD transfer is no longer allowed.

Well if you (like me) plan on the Cybertruck being a long term vehicle then it makes perfect sense to me. My 2026 Premium Cybertruck purchase was conditional on a decent trade in value for my 2025 Model Y and the transfer of the Model Y's FSD license to the Cybertruck. With those conditions met I ordered on Feb 5th. The CT is supposed to arrive at the delivery center this week and I admit to being a little obsessed about it. I know my wife will be very happy when we can talk about something other than the Cybertruck.

BTW, I had a 6 seat 2018 Model X and it was a very nice car but certainly not a Cybertruck.in terms of versatility and usability.

Thanks for the input. You're going to absolutely love the CT. I had the same model x (2018 6 seater) and we loved it. Our kids are older now and we seem to always run into situations where the 5 seats in the CT or our Model Y just aren't enough. That's the only reason I'm considering Model X now since they are going away and I unfortunately can't afford to have a MX and CT :)

My main question though is what are peoples thoughts on the PCS failure concern? Hopefully some who have knowledge about it or experienced it will have some input. I don't like thinking that at any moment I can be stranded

The PCS (Power Control System) issue was perhaps my biggest concern too. It certainly has an important sounding name and it does seem that Tesla has it sorted but really no one knows for sure. I decided it was a risk worth taking but if I am ever stranded in the middle of nowhere, I'm coming after Elon ...

Im in the same boat as you. Early Foundation owner but I don’t drive a ton so I’m low mileage like you.

Sadly in hoping for the PCS issue so I can get it over with. It sounds like it’s bound to happen at some point but us low mileage guys just didn’t have it happen yet.

I’ve considered doing a switch like this… What did they offer for your trade-in?

If the problem is a manufacturing mistake, such installing a 4 ohm resistor instead of 8 ohm, then they’re all gonna fail eventually.

But if the issue is a component made with poor quality control, then some percentage will fail, not necessarily all.

I have 30K on my 2024 FS AWD and had the PCS fail a week ago and replaced and got my truck back yesterday. They told me it is a new part. It is the only failure I have experienced beyond my wiper. I would think that trading in for a new truck or buying a used truck would present other risks so I am inclined to keep my truck. That said, I am hoping that the powers that be will force Tesla to recall this part and force them to solve the problem. I also believe that this should be included in the power train warranty but that is just me.

I should that when I got the error that I couldn’t use AC charging I had 50% SOC but I live 20 miles from any SCs so we tried going to an SC (the app suggested that would work) before going home but that didn’t work. So I basically didn’t go anywhere until I got a repair appointment which, luckily for me, they prioritized because when I first booked an appointment it was 3 weeks out. So yes, I was scared but I’d have felt much worse had I been out on the road somewhere.

Thanks for your perspective. You hit the nail on the head. I am actually hoping to just get this failure over with prior to my warranty being over (4 year one). As I get closer to it being over without the failure, it’s making me nervous. They offered me $70k.

I have the same attitude as you. My truck is solid and I don’t want to roll the dice on a new one. But the biggest most cumbersome issue hasn’t happened for me. If it had, I would be like you and get it fixed and keep the truck forever.
