Received my quote for install. Main electric panel is in driveway where gateway will be installed. 6kw non Tesla solar panels on roof. 150 amp service.
Quote was $6300.

A little surprised as I figured mine was about as simple an install as possible. Apparently gateway has to be at least 5 feet from main Panel? apparently wire is expensive.

what are others experience?

Mine was the first install in the Omaha area and they charged me $4740, which I thought seemed a little high, but since Tesla only authorizes one company in my area it was my only choice if I wanted powershare.

My install was also pretty simple. My main electrical panel is in my basement, but up against the back of my garage. So they installed the gateway about 3 feet over from my main electrical panel, then ran it up the wall to the ceiling of the basement and then punched out into the garage where they mounted the universal charger.

They used a 60 amp breaker from my main panel and ran that over to the gateway, then from the gateway the mounted a small sub panel and moved 8 of my regular circuits that I wanted backed up into that sub panel. So when the power goes out to my house or if I want to simulate a power outage I can flip that 60 amp breaker to the gateway and it will signal the universal charger and truck to begin powersharing.

This was the companies first install and they did forget to run the control wire up from the gateway to the universal charger, but came back out the next day to correct that issue. They also messed up the registration of the gateway and charger on my tesla account, but eventually after contacting Tesla I was able to get it all straightened out. After about 2 weeks Tesla does whatever it is they do (I think they review the install pictures from the electricians or something), they enabled the actual powersharing feature on the truck so it will all actually work.

I have 200 amp service and one installer quoted $4500, the other quoted $7000, both Tesla certified installers, both quoting roughly the same services to be installed so no idea why the huge price difference. I have a 3rd installer coming out next week. When I already have 100amp service to my garage with phat copper wire and an existing wall charger, the act of taking one off the wall and replacing it with another one should NOT cost $700/$1200, seriously it is a 15 minute job, but even if an hour, that's an absurd hourly rate...

This whole thing looks like a cash grab to me...

I placed my order for the gateway; they shipped the universal power connector but not the gateway. I’ll be waiting until they both arrive to do anything.
