I want to vent and ask a question vent first!!!!!
Tesla assigned someone to come do an estimate for my Powershare install. I took the required pictures and sent them. A month later I get an estimate that basically reads like they didn't look at my application or photos. Prior I own 2 Teslas, had a sub panel installed in the garage capable of adding a Powerwall in the future and 2 Nema outlets for 2 mobil chargers. Plenty of space in the sub panel as well. The estimate came in at $5200 they ignored the sub panel, ignored the previous Nema plugs and wanted to run new conduit completely around the outside of my house. I complained!

Next they called and agreed they need to come have a look as the conduit was to small they could see this in the photo... it was 2". The tech came out agreed they could use the sub panel, existing conduit, and just add the Universal Charger. I wait another month for a revised estimate... $7200! For less work! it's somehow gone up by $2000!

VENT OVER>>>>Question:

I feel stuck, can I complain to Tesla, get a different installer? This one feels shady now. I am not going to name names until this plays out but right now it feels like they are making up whatever price they like because we have no other option! I've contacted the original Tesla pro that did my original subpanel in hopes he can help but I don't think he has the Powershare training yet.

What do you guys think?

UPDATED : 4.19.2024
I got an email from the installer, this time a new person. The email asked if I had any questions and when can we schedule?!

I explained that they already took my questions and have not responded and that their internal communications seem very bad. I proceeded to explain again how they estimated $5200, then sent a tech and agreed it the estimate was off and then sent a new revised estimate for $7200 for less work and then I asked him to please explain how less work and less equipment made my estimate go up 40%. I really need Tesla to give an option.

UPDATED : 5.15.2024
I want to follow up on this... after much waiting and waiting I finally got to talk to someone about my estimate. There was confusion on their part, there was confusion on my part, and all around there was a lot of miscommunication. In the end when they explained what was possible and how it would work I am satisfied with my new estimate of $4500ish.

Some things I did not know that led to my confusion. You must have a dedicated line from the Gateway to the Wall Charger. There is no way to utilize a sub panel to communicate or pass power to the Gateway. Also you do not need a subpanel if you want to backup your whole house. I think my preference is just turn off what I don't want to use based on the season and not try and guess what circuits to back up. This subpanel delete was worth probably $500-1000. In the end I think the install is a fair price and I will be proceeding soon.

Totally agree. We have one installer for the entire state of Connecticut. $4k is my install quote. Already have solar, backup gas generator and wiring to garage.

I’ll be watching this thread. I’m right in the middle of a quote with a freestanding solar panel array for the house and PowerShare. Being in Louisiana, I am required to use the New Orleans based certified service / dealer.
We will see if I have the same experience as you.

Quote was about 3500 in LA it was almost an 8 hour job for 3 guys. I definitely felt like we got value for it. I should add we had no existing EV’s so no wall charger so we added a new universal charger for about 2500. We also have solar so there was a lot going on and new PowerShare software etc. it’s not just an electrical job. It’s networking gateways as well.

So my assigned Tesla certified installer declined to handle my project. Said they had issues with the inspectors in south Jersey. I sent out a few emails requesting an installation quote, to installers from the Tesla list. One replied back that Tesla does not want other installers to quote a PowerShare job if they are not the assigned contractor. Since the installer that Tesla assigned cancelled, I need a new installer assigned and a quote. Tried several times, but no Tesla rep could find or get me to the correct person or department. One installer said it takes Tesla 4-8 weeks to ship out the PowerShare hardware. I might get my CT in a week. So I installed a NEMA 14-50 receptacle on the side of my house so I can use the Mobile connect to charge during interim. Anyone have a good PowerShare phone number.??

That's super frustrating! I would be ticked off too! Where I live in MS there are 4 certified electricians for wall connector installation. I'm actually meeting with one today to show him my garage setup and to get a quote for a wall connector install. I don't know how many have been trained/certified for the Powershrare setup but will ask him about it. Hopefully he can shed some light on how that process works. I'm wondering if Tesla has set pricing that they are supposed to go by or if Tesla has the contractors bid for each install (unlikely).

I meet with the electrician at 12 central time and will let y'all know what I find out after.

My install should be pretty straightforward. I estimated 2 men 4 hours. About $600 in materials.
My dad was an electrician. I know how to do most things.

I contacted several local installers before I even had a VIN, most said "wtf is a powershave" lol. I eventually connected with the team doing the early Powershare installs for Tesla employees, and they started doing legwork for me.

After my Cybertruck delivery, I got an email from a different installer that was assigned to me. My current installer said they would take care of it with Tesla, so I ignored the email.

Hopefully this will all work out, but I won't find out until June. That was the earliest that the utility company could come and disconnect me from the grid!

How did you guys get in touch with the Tesla PowerShare team? I’ve been looking for ways to contact them but keep getting the run around.

This entire PowerShare debacle has been very disheartening. I’m fully expecting them to deny us due to our existing solar installation and the distance between the main panel and where I’m going to have them install it.

Did any of you get your universal wall charger with the truck or is it getting sent to an installer. Really just want to install the 48A charger now so I don’t have to rely on my 32A mobile charger

I got a quote for $4,200.

It's been a month and I was thinking of backing out as we never experienced power outage ever.

I was thinking that I keep the equipment since this is part of the CT package and have it installed in case circumstances changed (not likely).

A 240v charger is something my son can install.

Anyone thought of this and actually successful in making Tesla send you the equipment?
