Watch out for rear end scammers. For folks who don't know what that is, it's when someone cuts you off with little space between you and them and then they slam on their breaks. Just had a woman attempt to do this to me.

That's what cameras are for.

Drive defensively. And don't be afraid of letting them clip you, rather than you clipping something else: Always control your ride.

Cops prefer when you swap paint than when they have to chase down someone for reckless driving. Physical evidence and whatnot.

Didn't the cruise control worked?

Someone cut me off because he is exiting to the road on the right.

But my cruise control did a hard brake plus that annoying ding, ding, ding...

Foundation Series should.

But you'll probably want something bigger, faster eventually.

I tried every recommended "best drive" for my M3P and they all broke. Samsung solid state drives, etc. I went back to the thumb drive that came with my M3P and it has always worked.

If anyone has a tested storage upgrade they can recommend, I'd love to hear suggestions.

'Broke' is so vague.

The drives all failed. They stopped recording and even if I plugged them into my computer, they were just dead. Couldn't save anything. This is one of the drives my Tesla made unusable. Again, that little metal USB drive I got at delivery is working like a champ 3 years later.

SAMSUNG FIT Plus USB 3.2 Flash Drives have all worked well for me and I prefer the low profile.

I use a raspberry pi now to sync my videos with my cloud storage over wifi when parked. Much smoother imo, but requires some techie know-how.

That seems strange, but drives do have a lifetime, and can be damaged by vibration and have a limited number of read-writes.

The amount of time they failed in seems an important detail.

I do not know the exact behavior of Tesla dashcam. Maybe its documented somewhere, but here are my recent experiences.

  • ~20 minutes of your last drive are saved... until your next drive
  • The horn or accident will save the current time and go back ~2mins prior.
  • The behavior of the Sentry button in the UI changes, while in drive is saves the current video, while parked it opens the UI to show videos.
  • It may not be possible to save videos while in park, so if you see it in the UI record with your phone or pull out the USB.
  • Each camera makes different files, and their start/end are not always in sync.
  • Videos that are gone from the UI may still be recoverable with an "undelete" program on your computer.
Recently my wife got in a minor accident and after 2 stops she got home and the video was gone. The video was no longer available through the UI, but I was able to recover the video file on my computer.

TLDR: Point is, get to know how it works and how to SAVE videos. Or you might find that an important video is gone.

Yeah. Keep that dash cam g

Does the truck come with a USB or do you need to buy one?
There is one in the CT glove box. Make sure it works and check it weekly or so as they do break.

I’m with you. We tried all the usual options with our 2020 MYLRs (they didn’t come with any external storage from Tesla back then). All failed and/or started acting up.

Bought two of the Tesla thumb drives from the shop when they became available. Both are still going strong after 3+ years.
