Replace Cant Rail Assemblies

Any idea what the repair time was? They hook you guys up with loaners?

They issued a loaner for me in advance. My service in on Monday and said to be completed on Tuesday. I’m also having them fix this window seal that was installed wrong and they better not charge me as it a defect. You can clearly see the contrail metal squishing on top of the seal. Then an odd rattle that’s been happening for over a year. Happens over bumps as it sounds like a loose air compressor or something in the back. The verbiage about charges in the app scares me but we will see.

I went in hoping to getting the PCS proactively replaced and they “replaced” the cant trail. They didn’t replace but applied updated glue on it. My wrap was still on.

And no, they didn’t replace the PCS.

Thinking about Tesla's responsibility regarding safety recalls:

Those not getting the safety replacement, if Tesla makes "every effort" to repair this safety related defect and you decline, are you assuming liability for any injury or death from your Cant rail flying off?

Not counting the recall aspect:
If you don't let them replace the Cant rails because "Mine are fine." and the summer heat/winter cold cycling ends up weakening the bonding in the Cant rail and it comes off, you'll probably be on the hook to pay for that replacement if you want a Cant rail.

I understand not wanting to screw up a cool wrap. But the dimple isn't much of a dimple and you can't even see one of mine and the other only can be seen up close at just the right angle and it's such a nothing burger. It wasn't exactly an inconvenience to do the safety recall. To me, it's not worth the chance a trip would be ruined because of a flopping Cant rail or that it may fly off causing damage or an accident just to avoid a possible dimple. A dimple.

It's easy for me to be all high and mighty because my Cant rails are pretty spot-on. LOL

My cantrail was sticking out ever so slightly so I scheduled the recall service a few weeks ago when I took it in for other things. I mentioned I was worried about the dimple and alignment to the tech. He told me the dimple was just something I've got to live with and that's just how it is. But when I got it back I had no dimples and the alignment was damn near perfect.

Wait it's possible to not have a dimple in the front where it bolts on? Both of mine have a minor dimple, and I thought that's just how it is. Alignment was perfect though.

I have an appt to re-wrap the sections with PPF coming up, figure it's probably not worth raising the dimples at this point and maybe the wrap will hide them a little more.

I saw this question asked earlier and didn’t see an answer… How long does the replacement take. I noticed that my passenger side rail was starting to get a bit loose and can tell it is not bonded as well. I tightened the bolt up at the front and it is snugged down for now, but I am sure that it will loosen again so I am looking to have them replaced. I live a couple of hours away from the nearest service center, and I’m hoping that they can complete this work relatively quickly so I don’t have to make two trips down to drop off the truck and then pick it up later.

Why not just use a little thread locker BLUE?

The bolt only attaches to the carrier bracket on the originals. It can't improve the stainless delamination. Rather, forcing the stainless against the front quarter panel could make things worse.

Cantrail replacement is sub two hours book time (might be sub one, the docs are a little ambiguous).

Yup, two hours is right. Just setup a couple demo drives while you are there to pass the time by.
