I would first clarify to them that watching the MSM is a sheep waste of time, because MSM will always be biased trying to smear Tesla at the behest of the failing competition paying them advertising revenue.

I hope you educated them on the Tesla facts at least, if not a little more. The fact they came to you might mean they wanted to get your experience or verification, so maybe that's a little hopeful.

I don't smoke or vape. I don't watch MSM. I'm thankful for bad habits I've been able to stay away from.

yeah I had a friend tell me Teslas were sinful, until I told him that it was my Tesla parked outside when he came in the restaurant. In fact the whole dinner table was hating on EV's. They saw my Tesla parked outside. It's interesting that no one wanted my opinion of it. Also these are the same people, self included, fully aware of something called "fake news".

concerning FUD and its origins of late I keep coming back to this quote by Jack Rickard from four years ago:

Tesla Cybertruck Sadly the FUD is winning. Big_awl

Why do you post Trump congratulating SpaceX when we are talking about FUD against BEVs and Tesla.

For over 8 years, Trump has been very vocal about being against BEVs and clean energy.

Multiple times over many years, Trump has claimed that BEVs cause more damage to the environment than ICE vehicles.

Multiple times Trump has claimed that wind turbines cause cancer.

Multiple times Trump has claimed that if country uses solar energy systems we will have blackouts every night when sun goes down!!

At a speech in Pennsylvania, Trump hinted he would roll back any such subsidies, recounting a story about a friend fed up with driving their EV from Kentucky to Washington, DC, due to all the alleged charging stops.

“He told me (…) ‘please, please let’s get rid of this stuff’,” claimed Trump, adding it allegedly took the person “more time to charge the damn car” than spent driving it.

FactCheck.org - Trump’s Misleading Claims About Electric Vehicles and the Auto Industry
By D'Angelo Gore, Lori Robertson and Eugene Kiely
Posted on October 2, 2023
https://www.factcheck.org/2023/10/t...bout-electric-vehicles-and-the-auto-industry/

In a speech at a Michigan auto parts plant, former President Donald Trump distorted the facts about electric vehicles and the U.S. auto industry.

.....
* We found no support for Trump’s claim that the proposed rules would kill 40% of the auto industry’s jobs. Instead, Ford’s CEO said EVs take 40% less labor to make, but the company would offset job losses by making its own EV parts.

* Trump claimed all-electric vehicles can only “drive for 15 minutes before you have to get a charge.” Most EVs have a range of 110 to 300 miles, with some expensive models reaching 400 to 500 miles.

He claimed EVs are “bad … for the environment.” But studies show that electric cars produce less pollution over their entire lifespan than gas-powered vehicles.

.....
EPA Proposal Not a Mandate

Trump mischaracterized regulations proposed by the Biden administration to reduce pollution from motor vehicles.

“Biden’s job-killing EV mandate has dictated that nearly 70% of all cars sold in the United States must be fully electric less than 10 years from now,” Trump said.

Not exactly. As the New York Times wrote in April, “The E.P.A. cannot mandate that carmakers sell a certain number of electric vehicles.”

Instead, that month, the Environmental Protection Agency introduced new proposed rules that would significantly restrict the amount of emissions from light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, which includes passenger cars, trucks and large pickups and vans. If approved, the proposed standards, with some exceptions, would phase in starting in 2027.

In a statement at the time, the EPA said the new standards are “projected to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles,” which “could account for 67% of new light-duty vehicle sales and 46% of new medium-duty vehicle sales” in 2032. But that depends on “the compliance pathways manufacturers select to meet the standards,” the agency said.

In theory, automakers could find other ways to meet the emissions targets without having to produce as many EVs, as Joseph Goffman, principal deputy assistant administrator for the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation, wrote in prepared testimony for Congress in June.

“The proposed standards are performance-based emissions standards and are technology neutral, meaning that manufacturers can choose the mix of technologies (including internal combustion technologies) that they believe would be best suited for their fleet to meet the standards and to meet the needs of American drivers,” his opening statement said.

.....
Environmental Impact

According to experts, electric cars produce less pollution over their entire lifespan than vehicles with an internal combustion engine. But Trump argued that the public is not aware of the environmental downsides of EVs.

“People have no idea how bad this is going to be also for the environment,” he said. “Those batteries, when they get rid of them and lots of bad things happen. When they’re digging it out of the ground to make those batteries, it’s going to be very bad for the environment.”

Trump has a point: Some analyses do show that the energy required to manufacture electric car batteries — which are often made of mined lithium, nickel and cobalt — can lead to greater carbon emissions than the production of gas-powered vehicles. Also, in many areas of the country, battery charging stations use electricity generated by fossil fuels, such as coal and natural gas, which further increases the carbon footprint of EVs.

But other studies demonstrate that EVs that run on electricity only, which have no tailpipe emissions, have far fewer life-cycle emissions than conventional cars that rely on gasoline or diesel. Such studies consider all stages in the life of a vehicle, from “extracting and processing raw materials through refining and manufacture to operation and eventual recycling or disposal,” as explained in a white paper published by the International Council on Clean Transportation.

For example, in a post about “electric vehicle myths,” the Environmental Protection Agency noted that a 2021 Argonne National Laboratory analysis of both a gasoline car and an EV with a 300-mile range found that, even when factoring in battery manufacturing, total greenhouse gas emissions for an EV were typically lower than those for the gasoline car.

Furthermore, while not easy, recycling the batteries, rather than simply disposing of them in landfills where they can leak toxins, “can reduce the emissions associated with making an EV by reducing the need for new materials,” the EPA says.

-----------------------------

Trump's broadside against electric cars comes as Tesla is pegged the biggest new EV subsidy beneficiary
The Model 3 could qualify for $7500 in subsidies (image: Tesla)The Model 3 could qualify for $7500 in subsidies (image: Tesla)
A market research firm has identified Elon Musk's Tesla as the electric car company that will benefit the most from the Inflation Reduction Act's new EV subsidy scheme that will run until 2032. Former President Donald Trump's recent anti-EV rant, however, may put these subsidies in jeopardy if he runs again and wins.

I’m still waiting for:
1. Killer bees to take over the US
2. Inability to go outside without a gas mask due to pollution
3. Global flooding that was supposed to be here a decade ago
4. Ice age coming (this was promoted in 70s)
5. Getting international stories so wrong or not covering international stories at all that don’t align with their interest(even when other international news is covering).
6. The list goes on and on…
None of these things are from the main stream media, tho.
  1. Killer bees are still a thing (but wild bee populations have nosedived) in Mexico and the South.
  2. This actually happened in parts of the US https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_Skies_Day multiple times. That we've actually reduced pollution doesn't mean it's not a problem!
  3. No one ever said it was supposed to be a decade ago, be we've gotten about four inches in the last thirty years https://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/climate-change-global-sea-level#:~:text=The rising water level is,record (1993-present). We're also probably already past the tipping point: Given the CO2 in the atmosphere and oceans today, we're going to see massive damage (like the fires above) https://earth.org/tipping-points-of-climate-change/
  4. This is the only example of main stream media being wrong, because science of the time showed warming. (solar cycles and aerosol effects are real, though).
  5. ...That's so vague to be meaningless.
  6. ...That's not even an item.

... as soon as the news turns to tesla, they just repeat whatever fake news they hear without any verification. ...
...And then they call you a Musk fanboy if you try to correct them. Like, what does Musk have to do with them not doing basic honesty?

Biden & MSM are at war with Tesla & Musk and Trump is against EVs but likes Musk . WTF
This is a dumb article. The event was about transitioning producers of Internal combustion engines to batteries. Tesla never made internal combustion engines.

I've had about enough of my "liberal" friends calling me a Musk fan boy, while they do nothing of value with their lives. It's real easy to watch TikTok all day from your parents' basement and criticize other people.

I've always considered myself a liberal. I was sitting at the Occupy protests and have been active in local politics. The party is losing me, it's essentially a witch hunt against who isn't following what their social media tells them to follow. Why can't we just get back to supporting universal health care and spend on education together? Since when is the liberal party the one that is spewing anti-environmental rhetoric? It's gotten real bad.

I had 4 people come up to me in the last 2 days to warn me about the recall! I can't believe the MSM FUD worked so well :(

I tell them that the day before it was announced, there was a Ford recall for 500,000 vehicles that could CATCH FIRE. Had they heard of that? After they say no, I tell them that only 3,000 Cybertrucks were affected, and only 2 actually had the problem. They usually go "wow".

For anyone new to Tesla, this kind of stuff has been going on for years. I was just hoping it was finally fading away...
My personal assessment of all this FUD

We hear a lot of "nobody wants an EV" and "The Government is pushing EV down our throats".
This seems to be 2 reasons at least:

1. Election Season (wont go into that because I have mixed feelings and its against policy here)

2. The rest of the EV market has generally failed, so while they catch up, its ideal to "slow down" Tesla. All the talk about "can't charge" are non-tesla for the most part. The experience I've had on my non-Tesla PHEV is AWFUL as far as charging, and its not gotten any better.

So of course when I see a story about a car catching fire, I know its not a Tesla, because if it ever was, then it would be "TESLA CATCHES FIRE HIDE YOUR CHILDREN THE SKY IS FALLING"

EV hate is nothing new. Heck, I found all this FUD over 2 years ago:

  • EV manufacturing causes more carbon emissions than it will save.
  • Your EV is made in China, why do you hate America
  • They're so quiet that all pedestrians will be killed.
  • Air pollution from EV tire wear is 1000 times worse than ICE tailpipe emissions.
  • Our drinking water will be poisoned by discarded battery packs.
  • There is not enough lithium in the world, which is mined by starving children.
  • The electric fields will give you cancer.
  • The U.N. is going to confiscate my classic ICE car.
  • It takes 8 hours to charge, long trips are impossible.
  • You'll die of starvation in a traffic jam.
  • They will randomly drive you into a tree and kill you.
  • Charging in the rain will electrocute you.
  • Driving in the rain will electrocute you.
  • The grid can't handle EV charging.
  • There is nowhere to charge.
  • There are plenty of places to charge, but you'll be murdered.
  • They can be hacked, and you'll be murdered.
  • The chargers can be hacked, and explode your car, or take out the grid.
  • EVs are too slow. (lolwhut)
  • EVs are too fast to be safe. (ok maybe lool)

- Batteries will need to be replaced in a year or two.
- They dont work in cold weather
- It's a golf cart

Are these random people in public or people you know?

I think it is a good thing people are aware and let others know. I'm surprised by how many people don't pay attention to these notices or care.

Nope. The media knows that Tesla gets clicks. Their FUD is all about greed and potentially being own by companies that are supported by fossil fuels. Also people don’t even read articles, they just react to thumbnails and headlines, which are purposely written to be clickbait. It’s sad.

Just ask the fudsters, if Tesla makes such terrible vehicles why is the Model Y the number one selling vehicle in the world? There are literally millions of Teslas on the road. Why would people continue to buy their cars if they weren’t any good?
