Yea this looks like a $149 soft cover top off of Amazon to me.
Just based off that video it looks like that thing will be flapping like crazy back there, hopefully final version is a bit more robust.
There will probably be a pretty big aftermarket for this.

it seems like a significant amount of work is being done by the retention system mounted around the perimeter of the bed.

why? Trying to think of a use case why I would want or need a soft and manual tonneau cover?
Range. It is, after-all, the LR model. Needs to be cheaper and longer range. This seems like an reasonable solution over the heavy and costly tonneau.

If they can sell some more trucks there will be, right now aftermarket mfgs are looking at sales #s and making decisions to produce something for the cybertruck, or make the 921st version of a model Y cupholder liner.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the aftermarket comes up with something like this…

I don't think much wind gets back there... even wet leaves on top of my CT barely comes off from wind when driving.

how a single motor getting better range than awd dual motor?!??!?!??!?
Great question—this comes up a lot, especially with EVs like Teslas where both single-motor (RWD) and dual-motor (AWD) variants are available. Here’s why a single motor setup often gets better range than a dual motor AWD setup:

1.

Less Weight

  • A single motor means fewer components: no second motor, no extra driveshafts, etc.
  • Less weight = less energy needed to move the car.

2.

Lower Drivetrain Losses

  • With only one motor, there are fewer mechanical parts turning, which means less friction and energy loss.
  • Dual motors are great for traction and performance, but that extra hardware creates more parasitic loss.

3.

Simpler Power Distribution

  • A single motor doesn’t need to split torque between front and rear axles.
  • AWD systems (even electric ones) can introduce inefficiencies when managing power between two motors.

4.

Optimized for Efficiency

  • Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) single-motor EVs are often geared for maximum efficiency rather than performance.
  • Dual motor setups prioritize traction and acceleration, which can compromise efficiency a bit.

5.

Software Tuning

  • Manufacturers often tune single-motor cars with a more efficient driving profile, knowing that buyers of these versions usually prioritize range over speed or performance.

The only reason I would like it.

If the rear window would go DOWN or be REMOVABLE (Large window maybe Plexiglas) that could be great. Yes I know seat backs are there too.

There is space where the cover is stored what could you do with that...

Just 1/2 a thought

Fortunately mine stays dry.
Same. Only some water drips down at the tailgate interface on hard rains, or pressure washing, but not much...as long as I am parked where the bed is sloping toward the tailgate, none will get in the bed at all. On that note, I wish they offered a suspension control option to have different elevations from front to rear suspension...so we can change the angle of the bed for different needs.
