I was thinking that as well when OP mentioned about security making them leave and deleting their footage. If they were on public property, you can’t trespass what the eyes or a camera can see, right?
It’s private property down there.

Hoping close to size of Lightning Frunk. It works perfectly for how I use it. Larger would be okay but not necessary in my mind. Smaller would limit it some. Volume is what matter so hoping close to same.

My operating theory.

Camo trucks were made in Texas using at least part of the new assembly line. RAW trucks were made in Fremont. They are saving the last minute changes for reveal night.
Camo trucks were spotted driving around California.
It is possibly they built them in Texas and flew them to California for testing.....but....it would have been easier to build them in Fremont.....all guessing.

They really don’t have a need to build trucks in California any more and haven’t for some time.

Hand building trucks in Fremont this late in the game accomplishes little to nothing. They are going to want the final product going for winter testing, not a prototype. Also, there is zero reason to wrap the prototypes when Franz is letting people fondle them in public.

Shipping the final trucks to California where most of the design/ engineering team is makes tons of sense and doesn’t cost much to do.

The camo and the snow is creating an illusion. There is no frunk!

That illusion looks much larger than my Lightning frunk though. If it really was a thing of course.
Oh, is that the beer fridge?

Love that they have copied the Lightning! One of the advantages to being a bit later to market. Similar to a lot of Apple products..
Ford copied Tesla for the frunk. They saw it on Cybertruck presentation & made the same on the Lightning!

...Yes, but you build the trucks before you have the trucks. They have the trucks, so they already did or didn't do this.

My theory is that this marks the end of whatever skunkworks they had, the trucks released into testing while the real line is being built. Like you said, it makes sense to test the trucks where the engineers are - but it also made sense to test the machines and processes where the engineers are, before making the final line and things get more difficult to move around.

They have a pilot line in Fremont. @IJNYamato mentioned no Cybertrucks have been built in Austin for the time being.

UPDATE: Best photos of today before SHPG security chased everyone away and made some people deleting their photos… Unfortunately, we couldn’t see it getting off the truck. However, the CT is here and the winter testing gets started. Bring it on!

And a video by NZ_Tim93

Spotted a camouflaged Tesla Cybertruck getting unloaded at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds in New Zealand right now (24.6., 12:15pm NZ Time). Let’s get the winter testing started!

We literally just saw a post with a Cybertruck on an assembly line in Texas.
And someone who says they have an in at the factory said they'd not yet produced a full truck there as of last Friday.

Which, as you argued then, we really can't know.

no, we didnt

We saw a cab chassis surrounded by some robot (welding?) arms

the same day as seeing contemporaneous photos of part of the casting portion of line floor looking like a hoarders storage unit

that’s no more seeing a “CyberTruck on an assembly line in Texas” than is seeing castings at GTX
