I was reading a post in another thread where someone mentioned this rattle. I forgot how annoying this was (and it is annoying!). This fix was something I did a while back and totally forgot about because it worked so well...
Tesla has a felt-like block in the center portion, but it doesn't provide enough tension to prevent rattling between the telescoping covers. What I did was extend the steering wheel as far as I could and add two additional fuzzy/aka loop velcro pieces to either side of where the stock piece was (helps to use automotive grade for the heat). If you do this, just make sure to extend underneath the top cover, and long enough that it won't catch fully extended or collapsed while telescoping.
