Greetings,

I was reading a post in another thread where someone mentioned this rattle. I forgot how annoying this was (and it is annoying!). This fix was something I did a while back and totally forgot about because it worked so well...

Tesla has a felt-like block in the center portion, but it doesn't provide enough tension to prevent rattling between the telescoping covers. What I did was extend the steering wheel as far as I could and add two additional fuzzy/aka loop velcro pieces to either side of where the stock piece was (helps to use automotive grade for the heat). If you do this, just make sure to extend underneath the top cover, and long enough that it won't catch fully extended or collapsed while telescoping.

Hope it helps.

Brilliant. Will try that if Tesla goes not have an official repair. Thank you very much.

When I mentioned this noise to service, they laughed and said "no problem" and solved it during the service visit. So they definitely can look after it. But I like OP's solution and will do it myself if the noise comes back.

Mine was August 2024. It rattles but only every once in a while before my "foamy" fix. This fix using Velcro cloth side is probably much better than mine.

It only really happens if you have the steering wheel fully telescoped out while driving. It doesn't happen if you move it in a mm or so

I too had a rattle in the back of steering wheel. I had it in for service snd they said they added material in the plastic pieces. It still rattled afterwards. I stuffed a tissue in this space and it stopped.

I probably would have done something very similar (clip or cloth, etc), but we needed the telescoping feature as both my wife and I drive the truck. It's a great truck!

14.1.7 is installing as I post!!!

Such an easy fix, and yet I see people posting about wanting to do a warranty claim for something this. As soon as I see "For a truck costing 100k", I stop reading.
