Honestly, I always assumed wireless charging was stupid. However, knowing how dumb/lazy people are (I literally mean no offense), it makes sense to have something like this. If efficiency/speed isn't important, this would work for a lot of stupid/lazy people who just want to park and walk away.

If they could achieve like 15 miles/hour this could be a dope home charge setup

You're apparently unaware that wireless charging can exceed the efficiency of wired charging. No offense.

The real use-case for wireless charging is for people that must park in public. Instead of plugs and cables everywhere, the charging pad is built into the parking spot. Nothing to vandalize or break.

That's awesome! Do you have a link? I've only read a few articles and they all stated that efficiency still isn't on par. You always lose some from the base station to the battery in the car.

Agreed. I love the accusation about how people who want wireless charging are stupid and lazy, but then is ignorant of the technological developments in the area. 🤣

All charging implementations in use right now (that I've seen anyway) show wired charging is still more (electrically) efficient than wireless.

This can't change, until someone can demonstrate equal power consumption with identical cars and state of charge (SOC) side-by-side, using a wired charging session on one stall, and a wireless charging session on the other - and testing multiple times while also switching the cars to assure small SOC differences and battery condition do not favor one or the other.

I would love to see this type of EV charging demonstration test happen. Who knows, it may have happened and I'm just unaware. So if it has been done and someone would post a link for such a demonstration test, some of us will be the wiser and I would certainly be happier.

If it does become widely feasible, wireless charging would be a boon for autonomous and robotaxi cars as well. Imagine telling your car to go charge and meet you back at your house in two hours! This could be a real thing. But, that also may encourage some to just forego installation of a home charge connection, and just send their car to wireless superchargers instead, so that could potentially be a problem for supercharger crowding. But it could also be a benefit for apartment residents unable to install charging equipment where they live.

Wouldn’t that be a hoot. Tesla sells all these automakers rights to the NACS Tesla connector and then switches to wireless.

they didn't really sell it.. they open sourced it.. what they agreed to was opening up the charging stations they built... which is a good thing for everyone..

I might be wrong but i see wireless charging more as a home or business use thing... especially needed for cliff dwellers <aka apartment owners> who don't have a garage to install a charger at.

How do you know they didn’t sell it?
