Here is the best explanation that I have found regarding automobile paint quality...

Corrosion protection and paint thickness and consistency would be significantly improved if Tesla used the techniques and equipment that GM used in Lordstown assembly plant, that the Lordstown Motors Endurance will soon be produced with starting in January 2021.
I heard ALL of the vehicles that have come out of the Lordstown plant since they started production 6 months ago have perfect paint and perfect panel gaps. No one has found a single one with with a pinhole in the paint or a panel gap variation!

It's almost like Lordstown is incapable of making a bad vehicle!

/s

...meanwhile, Tesla has made 2 million nearly perfect, beautiful cars.

Im sure at this point that I will be flipping my CT for a profit. After sitting on my hands for 2 years with an early reservation# watching and learning, I wont make my final decision until I actually see it in person, but the styling is already becoming outdated and boring in my eyes. There is so much more style and luxury coming out that I would rather not deal with all the quality and bug issues that always happen with first year vehicles.

I'll start the bidding at $69

As Tesla gains even more high-volume manufacturing experience, and with continued focus, I expect quality issues and reports to lessen in frequency. One example: a couple years ago, when I heard about the paint issues on the Model 3, I went into a Tesla store and examined the paint on a Model 3 in the showroom. Sure enough, I saw the topcoat missing under the hood (under spray?). I had to look closely as it was only visible at an angle in the holes in the hood support structure. Not a big deal, but not perfect.
I recently saw a new Model Y on the showroom floor. The paint was perfect, and I couldn't find any other flaws in the fit and finish.

They must have made some modifications or improvements to the paint system at Fremont. Our 2021 Model Y paint job is flawless.

Would you rather have a car with perfect paint and a crappy infotainment system…

… or one that has paint flaws but an amazing console which is upgradable?

Perfect panels and crappy lane keep technology…

… or panel gaps and the best driver assistance system on the planet?

I’m not saying Tesla has these issues. What I’m suggesting is that the things people usually whine about regarding Tesla quality are pretty far down my list of concerns.

Faster charging? Better access to fast charging? More efficient battery so home charging is faster and cheaper? Just an overall lighter car/ truck which performs better?

The biggest and most lopsided gap I see is the gap in capability between Teslas and other vehicles.

Not sure if this is a sarcastic reference to the Tesla 12000USD or 10600CAD FSD cost, you realize you don't need FSD for map updates right? Because i'm pretty sure a Toyota doesn't drive you around.

Not sure what you are referring to here. Toyota definitely charges more for their navigation system and driver assist features. Likely around $10,000 but I haven’t priced it. These features are free on all Teslas.
