We aren’t seeing full VINs on Cybertrucks are we? I would expect Cybertruck VINs to include more drivetrain options for example, and to describe the Release Candidate options.
we're seeing only the portion of the VIN that is the unique to a specific unit, its serial number, which is serialized to production order (as well as pre-production stage of validation)

that said, much of the remaining VIN is already known to us without needing to see it, as follows:

Tesla Cybertruck Tesla's Cybertruck VIN Activation Tracker (NOT Customer VIN Allocations) 1692718612445

Digits 1-3: obvious/known meaning (even if we don't yet have the alphanumeric)
Digit 4: almost certainly the letter 'C' (presently, Digit 4 is either S, 3, X, or Y, for obvious reasons
Digit 5: obvious/known meaning (it's a truck)
Digit 7: obvious/known (will be an 'E' for electric)
Digit 9: irrelevant (this is the federal 'check digit' - a random code to protect against false VINs)
Digit 10: obvious/known (this will be the letter correlated with the 2024 model year)
Digit 11: obvious/known (this will be an 'A' for Austin)

That leaves us with Digit 6 (seatbelt configuration) and Digit 8 (motor/drive configuration).

However, seeing those digits alone wont tell us anything about the vehicle, until we are able to separately correlate the known digits to a known configuration. E.g., even if we saw the letter 'G' here we wouldn't yet know if that stood for dual or tri motor, etc.

All-in-all, when it comes to "seeing the VIN," these last 3 digits being spied on the units pretty much tells us everything we currently care to know based on merely seeing the digits alone.

I am likely not the only person on this forum that would like to know what Digit 8 value a particular RC or Production unit is, and the Model Y VIN breakdown doesn't even cover Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor variants. I more or less agree with you. I was just thinking that this VIN legend doesn't tell us much (ok, it doesn't tell us anything) about the Release Candidate numbering. So as much as many of the digits may be obvious, an entire VIN would perhaps be above discussion altogether.

I'm sorry, I guess I'm not following

because in truth, you don't want to know what Digit 8 is (e.g., a letter 'G'), you want to know what Digit 8 correlates with (e.g., that letter 'G' correlates with dual motor)

I'm just pionting out that seeing digit 8 alone will not tell us anything about what that digit stands for. not until we can both see that digit AND confirm the drive configuration of that unit, will we come to know what the specific digit 8 alphanumeric stands for

so yes, we'd all like to know how many motors these have. but seeing digit 8 alone will not tell us that.

I was just thinking that this VIN legend doesn't tell us much (ok, it doesn't tell us anything) about the Release Candidate numbering.
no, the legend alone does not

it's me confirming for you what is in my original post regarding the final 6 serialized numbers:
  • as a company-wide matter, beta-series start with a 'B' and RCs start with an 'R' in the sixth position of the serial
  • regarding the CT in particular, they've batch-identified Betas beginning with a '5' in the third position, and for RCs (so far) they've batch-identified with a '6' in the third position

regarding the RCs 'so far', the meaning of the numbers going forward will be a bit fact dependent on if/when we no longer see a '6', e.g.:

if we see a '695' and a few days later a '702' then it is most likely they have made 102 RC1 units

if instead we see a '670,' but a few days later we see an '804' then it is unlikely that we've simply missed 130 units, and instead most likely they have re-batched for another validation step advance, e.g., from RC1 to RC2 builds

8/23 shows unit # R00674 - so a minimum of 74 completed RCs to date

Seems like we're seeing some 7XX Vins now, yeah? This post mentions it. What do y'all make of it? Just that it's an RC 6XX and they've built more than 100?

https://www.cybertruckownersclub.co...ks-recovery-points-fog-lights-9-11-2023.9256/
I fell off in keeping up this tally!

but highest number seen to date (9/5) is 724

Over in this thread I gave my views of the roll from 6XX to 7XX

My *educated* view in short: they built ~98 dual motor RCs (6XX) with grey interiors, then transitioned to tri-motor builds (7XX) with white trim interiors.

I would not expect them to build as many tri-motors because much of general validation can be done on dual-motor builds, with a handful of tri’s needed to validate only tri-specific differences. 724 (or not much more) may be the highest 7XX we see

the slow-down in CTs over the past week suggests to me they’re mostly done building RCs (done only partially on the high-volume line) and may soon be moving to manufacturing confirmation builds (done entirely on the high volume line).

~two weeks ago there was talk on xwitter of the GFTX “production” lines being shut down for build-out of the lines - but CTs were still pumping out. Consistent with the high volume CT line possibly being shut down for additions, but the low volume RC line still finishing a backlog of partial HV line builds.

but now this past ~week only a couple of RCs have been spotted in the lots. as of today there are still a couple of 7XX RC builds cruising around GFTX. which suggests the low volume line is winding down and finishing its last few builds, while the high volume line is still receiving its updates. Consistent with prep for transitioning from RC1s to RC2/MCs once the HV line is ready to print it’s first test unit.

RC2s/MCs, when they start, would be the series of builds that would be used for insider deliveries

Accordingly, we might be on the lookout for eg 8XX builds (though they could also jump batch numbers to 9XX)

Phenomenal insights!! Thanks for the wisdom. I’m going to keep following this if you happen to see more/find out more as we go.

since @newwave1331 dug up the deets, thought these posts worth repeating on this VIN tracking thread

Reposting in full below, with a bit of a re-org, but the links are here and here

But a few notes of context:
• note the build blend to date: 207 duals to 19 tri/performance
• the 5-series betas aren’t shown below (should be about 60 of those)
• the 6- and 7- series are RCs (duals and tris, respectively) per OP here
• the 8s and 9s are MCs
• we should watch for “F” or “S” series vins soon (would be delivery event builds), though they may just keep in the production series with the MCs

“I ran vins in the 600s and 800s on NHTSA recall website and found that they go all the way up to 906. All 800-900s are 2024 dual motor H-Rated. I haven't been able to break the 5 series … yet. Let us know if you break it on of the other series.

207 verified so far.

Take this out or put a strike through it. Idk how it got on my post but I dont want someone thinking there has 1 G-rated VIN for some special reason.

@newwave1331

for the 5-series, trying to determine what you’re needing to solve for on the site

Tesla Cybertruck Tesla's Cybertruck VIN Activation Tracker (NOT Customer VIN Allocations) 1699326875903

I’d think it may go:

7G2CEHED?NFB005XX

- how are you solving for the check digit?
- possible that for the Betas the first three digits are 5YJ (previously S’s and 3’s 🤷🏻‍♂️)
- possible the year digit 10 is N or P
- possible the GVWR is G or H

other variables?
