There are comments about the thickness of 3 mm and trying to compare it to something that people know. I took this photo to show 3 mm of stainless steel in comparison to coins. Newton made these bottle openers out of 3 mm stainless steel a while back.

1/8" = 3.175 mm

3 mm slightly less than 9/64"

Don't know why this is so hard to visualize.

:)

Doesn't 1/8"= 3.175, mean that 3mm is slightly less than 1/8"?

BTW 1/8= 8/64
So why throw in 9/64?

This is the retired Sheet Metal Worker in me. :p

Yeah.... Not helping me visualize....

The picture with the coins helps. Also though, there is going to have to be some touchy feely time before I really get a better sense of this metal sheet.

That was why I bought a 3mm Bottle opener from Newton (one of our members), who made them. I have it on my keychain to show people what 3mm stainless steel is like. He made 45 of them and sold them all. Here's the link: https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/3mm-cybertruck-bottle-opener.4327/#post-81650

Wonder if they'll Lazer Cut a 'Teslaquila' bottle opener in the tailgate?

For affordability and weight saving reasons my hunch is that the 3mm thick SS exterior on the concept will be made thinner on the production vehicle. They may go down to a 2mm thickness.

I'd really like to see a video of someone trying to key the side of a CT. Will it actually cause damage? Or is the metal strong enough to just cause frustration in the person trying to key it?

Stainless Steel can be scratched, not nearly as easily as paint. And it's not that obvious, unless you're kinda looking for scratches. DIY scratch removal is also possible.

I think we should stop discussing this before it becomes a challenge accepted by all the idiots.....
