I'm glad I am an early day 2 reservation. I have zero desire for the overpriced "limited edition" FS Cybertruck.

"making me question just how exclusive this edition truly is."

Hi. The poster raises a valid question. I've never been one to pay extra for "Special Edition" cars, motorcycles, guns, PCs, etc. Also, I don't believe Tesla has published the cap on Foundation Series but let's look at some numbers and see if we can gain some perspective here.

Let’s make a few (hopefully somewhat reasonable) assumptions:

There are current reports of 2.3 Million reservations that are growing at 10,000 new reservations every day.
There will doubtless be some cancellations also.
So let’s assume ~ 300,000+ people cancel leaving 2 Million reservations convert to orders. (the math is easier)
Let’s assume reservations stop piling up today (silly, I know, but we need to do this to make the math work)

Speaking of math, I apologize if my math is off – please feel free to correct it.
I’m interested in truth, not stroking my vanity.

If 1000 Foundation Series are made / 2 Million orders = .0005 = 0.05% = 99.95% are standard Cybertrucks, 0.05% are Foundation Series. I’d say that’s (very) exclusive.

If 10,000 (!) Foundation Series are made / 2 Million orders = .005 = 0.5% = 99.5% are standard Cybertrucks, 0.5% are Foundation Series. I’d say that’s pretty darn exclusive also.

And just for giggles, if 100,000 (!!!) Foundation Series / 2 Million orders = .05 = 5% = 95% are standard Cybertrucks, 5% are Foundation Series. Still exclusive in my book!

So, if we’re just trying to get a sense of exclusivity, I’d say the Foundation Series will certainly be that. If exclusivity is worth it to you, is another question. In my case, I got the invite from Tesla for a Foundatin Series and I pulled the trigger – but not for the exclusivity. I place a value on having 6-18 months of ā€œCybertruck utilityā€ starting Q1 or Q2 this year versus waiting god-knows-how-long for standard CT delivery. I want the truck and the $20k premium seemed (mostly) offset by the included FS accessories and hardware. But that’s me. YMMV and that’s perfectly fine. Again, my logic is for me (alone) and I make no claims that it works for everyone. Anyway, I hope this helps lend some perspective on the numbers. Good luck!
Last year tesla sold 1.8 million vehicles, mostly my and m3 and only sold 68 k ms and mx. As you like to quote percentages, mx/ms represent roughly 4% of their total sales.

Both mx and ms have refreshed models, are older tesla models and have recently had their prices slashed.

The biggest difference between the mx/ ms and m3/my other than their size and certain upgrades is essentially their price.

Despite the price cuts to the mx/ms, their price range goes from 70- 90k.

This will give you some notion of what the demand for a tesla EV that is priced from 80-100+ K (and is only sold in the US).

IMO tela will be lucky to see 100 k units sold per year until the price drops and the range improves. With a lower price and better range, they will attract a broader community of people that actually use their trucks for something other than commuting to work and picking up groceries.

It’s not exclusive not matter what they tell us.. it’s a money grab.

I can etch and buy white trim panels for my regular truck when it arrives..

After that the only unique ā€˜feature’ is the VIN..

??
And the fact that we get to drive it a year or more before you. That has a value to it.

The streets will be flooded with them eventually then your $20,000 ā€˜investment’ will be worth what?

YouTubers could benefit from this ā€˜now’..

We all have our priorities, but lest not misunderstand what this really is.. which leaves a bad taste to some

I had the exact same question that OP posted. I called Tesla today to find out more on cancellation policy. They said I will have an option to wait for non-FS if I don't want to take delivery of FS. They confirmed that if you cancel the order, you'll go back in line. I think they know the demand is high. If you don't buy FS, there is always someone ready to shell out extra 20K to buy it. So I decided to not cancel my FS Cyberbeast. I don't mind paying 1K to hold my line in the reservation.

That is the opposite of what they told me. If it works out for you then that is terrific news. I would have done the same. But I was told that is not an option. (BTW The sales contract says that if you do not take delivery you will have to pay liquidated damages of the order fee plus the delivery fee. So IMO it is worth double checking.) I hope what they told is correct and that it works.

I think they will hit the 500 mile range to make towing possible much sooner than that. I'd say no more than 3 or 4 years from now. Just a guess.
I'd guess 6 months. Or more probably near when the extended battery ships.

Get back in line and hold your place in line are two VERY different things.
I think that you just paid 1K to get on the back of the line.

There are semantics in those words.

It's a Tesla. The numbers have been known to be stupid before and yet they were real.

Who would have believed 12 months ago that the Model Y would be the #1 selling car in the US?

I'm not saying that the guesses are right. But I can't say that they are wrong either.

It would be worth the components included in the package.
Foundation is effectively a "well equipped vehicle"

It's not an extra 20k if you were you were going to but everything in it anyway.

If you weren't going to get FSD, then it is severely overpriced for you.
