One does not get any points on balance transfer checks. This idea is lunacy. If one doesn't pay it off it is retro from day one plus the fee.

In 1980, the American Express catalog offered an exclusive line of gold-plated DeLoreans. You had to buy it with your Gold Card for $50,000.

They sold two.

The Pinto cost $3700 that year and was the best-selling car a few years earlier at over half-million units per year. But that was Pinto's last year.
The Ford F-150 ($5700) and F-100 had 300,000 units combined. The Pinto, 185,000 units.

Here’s my current offer from B of A……0% interest until Feb 2025. I’ve seen the offers go as long as two years. The interest starts accruing from the day the business cashes the convenience check, and gets tacked on if the balance is not paid in full by Feb 2025. But notice there’s also a 4% transaction fee, which on a large purchase may not be worth trying to get points.

I did put a large chunk down on my credit card when I bought my first supercar. So it is possible at some dealerships but Tesla, I doubt it. To Tesla we're just numbers because someone else will just buy it financed and they do not have to pay a fee to the credit card merchant.

Found that Amex can not issue that convenience check for me. they have auto-purchase program, but Tesla is not in that program. Also learned Tesla most likely will not accept that convenience check. so I gave up using CC or acquiring points :(

Wonder what a gold plated DeLorean is worth today?

Purchased a 1979 Camaro for 6700. Was full MSRP. I was 19 and buying my first new car. Had no idea I could haggle.

Also dumb enough to buy a black Camaro with dark red interior in NC (and later to Destin Fl) with no AC.

No automaker dealer allows cc for purchasing cars. In addition to the CC fees, there are other benefits (liabilities to seller) that CCs have that the auto dealers will not accept, such as “buyer protections” and cc returns.

I've called and verified this. Tesla will only take a credit card for the initial deposit, the $250 fee and the $1,000 deposit.
