I’ve been using my home charger for my Teslas (Model 3, then Y, now Cybertruck) since 2019 with no issues, including well over a year of incident free charging on my FS CT. A couple of months ago during regular nighttime charging the amperage setting switched from my 40 amp setting up to 48 amps, triggering the 50 amp breaker. I sent a service notice to Tesla: they said it’s an electrical issue. I brought a licensed electrical over and he said everything is functioning properly. I opened the wall charger and reset everything. Still doing the same thing. My charging rates have quadrupled since I now have to charge at Superchargers every other day. Any suggestions? I’m at wits end.

If the car/app is showing 48/48 then the wall connector needs its configuration updated.
Which wall connector version do you have?

In the meantime, you can see the vehicle’s charge rate limit to 40A from the vehicle or the app.

It sounds like you have a Version 2 Wall Connector if it's from 2018. If your DIP switches were set properly, it could not charge at 48 amps or trip the breaker. This is something the electrician would have noticed if he was competent to service Wall Connectors.

It was at 40A for 5 years, maybe the rotary switch contact for bit 0 corroded and shorted ...

I didn't know the Wall Connector had been set to 40 amps for the entire life of the charger, I thought maybe it had been moved to a new location (or simply a new circuit for whatever reason) and that the vehicles charge limit had been keeping it to 40 amps.

If the Wall Connector was set to 40 amps, and it's now charging at 48 amps, it would be worthwhile to check the DIP switches, maybe the detent was caught between two settings and finally switched? Without knowing the internal construction of the DIP switches I don't know how likely corrosion is (but obviously, something is wrong). I would inspect the DIP switches.

I had a garage door open due to a colony of ants taking up residence inside the controller...
Bugs man, bugs...

Typical switch logic: (left is normal, right is complementary )
