I read that somebody on the assembly line got the idea that the pedal cover would be easier to install if they rubbed some soap in the grooves. Unfortunately the soap kept the adhesive from properly bonding. Not sure if that's accurate but it makes sense.
I believe that it was referring to the Supplier, not Tesla.

really? a rivet? ok what happens when the upper section of sleeve comes loose? gonna rivet the top too? LOL, this has to be a joke. My recall states "replacement of pedal assembly" not rivet the cover to the pedal itself. also look at all the metal and plastic shavings that burn into the carpet. they also didn't protect the carpet or rubber floor mat?!! not gonna happen to my truck and surely I'd hope everyone else would say NO to that shady fix.

Really? You haven't followed the details?

The pedal cover fits over the peal with a U type sleave. You put it on over the top and supposed to force it down to the bottom. It was too hard for the contractor, and they started adding some soap. That's what caused the problem, the cover would slide upwards.

The fix with the rivet only requires keeping the pedal cover from sliding upwards.

There won't be the need for the rivet at the top, the U channel covers 3 sides, just not the bottom. And it is only a small chance that the rivet would ever need to do anything anyway, it's a force fit.

It's an elegant and not bad looking fix.

There are probably other pedals in other vehicles that look similar with the rivet anyway. It looks a little more mechanical with the rivet!

Oh yes, I'm on it for sure. I'm so glad my 100k dollar truck isn't going to get a rivet. Quote...replacement of pedal assembly...

Good for you. My personality allows me to accept the rivet without getting upset.

Me, I'm done with half ass jobs. Do it right or not at all. My personality doesn't allow me to bend over.

Tesla did it right. Their subcontractor did it wrong.

Tesla had to do something the kept the NHTSA and customers happy.

Holding deliveries up for another month for a complete redesign would not have been a good thing to do. They already were catching a lot of flack, from folks like you.

It's freaking small rivet that I never notice.
If they had done this before the first one shipped, no one would have complained about it, EXCEPT those who were trying to replace the pedal covers with third party products, which some do in the cars.

Get over it.
