Why do people say Foundation CT is 20K more?

The full package is 20K more but isn’t it just the car plus all the accessories you get for it which is worth 20K? In other words, it’s the same price as it would be if you waited for non foundation, then buy all the accessories on top, right? Or is there something I’m missing?

That’s still unclear at this time. We don’t know what will or won’t be an option and what it’ll cost if it is.

We don't have a lot of info about what options will cost what when the non FS truck launches. Certain things like FSD ($8,000), Powershare ($2,500), HPWC ($580) and the various bed and storage knickknacks make up part of that $20K premium, but we don't know how much will be added for tire and interior options. We also don't know if any other features will be locked behind options, they could easily put a price tag on 4-wheel steering, heated seats, ambient lighting or any of the other features. Until you can actually order a non FS edition, nobody really knows how much of a markup people have paid to get their truck early. I don't think it's as big of an early adopter tax as people think it is, especially if you want the options included in the FS package.

@T35L4 it's not really $20k additional. I posted my analysis about this a while back - can't find it at the moment - but in summary:

We all (generally) signed up for $73k+$7k locked for FSD. That is $80k total. After the VID, and 4.5 years, MSRP without FSD went up to $80k.

All other things remaining constant, the current-day total INCLUDING the $7k FSD price lock from 2019 reservation is $87k - a $13k uptick from the non-FS model if one were to pass on FS and wait for non-FS.

I won't hide it - I hesitated when the "Order Ready" email came through, and I also wanted to know what I was getting for the apparent $20k increase. However, after looking at the current-day MSRP for non-FS, plus my FSD $7k locked in at reservation, I priced up the accessories, equipment, premium connectivity, etc to really see what I was getting for the additional $13k.

All that said, I plugged a $3k number in for the PowerShare equipment, as that was unknown at the time of my order placement. That plug plus the accessories/subscriptions included with the FS resulted in a $1500-$2k upcharge for expedited delivery versus waiting for who knows how long for a non-FS. At the end of the day, I pulled the trigger because that expedited delivery fee was worth it, and I would have bought (almost) all the accessories, etc. that were included in the all-in $100k.

Hope this helps.

A few folks with more time and cares than me did a break down on FS vs *guessing* non-FS costs. I think most of these came up with a similar conclusion: that you pay around $5k for the FS badge as far as the cost of things stand now.

Very observant, and some have noted the options add up to about 16K leaving about 4K more for the name and etched Foundation logos.

If the price ever goes up, the Foundation series will have been a good deal in retrospect, for those who for some reason want to be early or first ones in their areas to own one.

Many more probably want to buy the Foundation Series Cybertruck right now, but are being forced to wait for their financial recovery after what recent years of inflation has done to their buying power and resources.

The FS is not eligible for the federal tax credit.

They say it's 20K more because well, you ready, ..........IT IS 20K MORE EXPENSIVE!. Doesn't matter what you get with it. It cost 20k more. A 1 million dollar house is double the price of a 500 thousand dollar house, doesn't matter what the house is, what comes with it, how much land it has, one is double the price of the other. none foundation and 80k. foundation and, 100k. One is 20k more than the other.

But many of us are happily buying it because while CT went up 25-50% depending on versions, the S&P 500 is up 76%. :)
