1000 miles in on my CT (and my first Tesla)

I absolutely love everything about this truck…. EXCEPT…

the “traffic aware” cruise control.

WHY on earth does it just randomly slam on the brakes? Why does it slow down for a yellow flashing light on the side of the road… why OH why is it so bad?

Somebody please tell me it gets better somehow?? I miss my wife's Kia when it comes to cruise control. (Not to mention Lane keep).

looking for some genuine answers here, not some Elon fanboy stuff (no offense). Thanks all!
Increase the distance between cars to at least 4 car lengths. This helps a lot. There is a setting for Lane departure warning. I keep it off. I used it for 6 years in my Model 3. It wasn't necessary.
I've used my CT with these settings and haven't had the urgent braking issue. The truck doesn't stop as fast as a car that weighs half as much so it needs more time to stop.
In my area we have freeways with lots of stop n go traffic. The old sensor version in my M3 would brake for ghosts and brake too late not like a human. I've found the CT to have improved on this part.

SInce V12, FSD *is* much better than TACC - I experience almost no phantom braking. Unfortunately, it is all or none - you have to also let it steer if you don't want phantom braking. I've often wondered if Tesla made a conscious decision not to fix TACC and Autosteer to drive more FSD sales.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful feedback.

Funny enough, I’m about 8 hours into a roadtrip right now after my original post, and not a single phantom braking event. It’s been a fantastic drive. ?‍♂

Let the losers over on Cyberstuck talk. I quit reading that garbage a while ago after they all went bonkers claiming the CT has no leg room in the rear bench. Morons. ?

the "cruise control" is bad.
what i've experienced on two road trips in the past 3 weeks.
- brakes when someone in front of me exits the highway
- brakes on lighted caution signs
- brakes with oncoming traffic on a two lane road
- jerky speed adjustments
- didn't handle construction zone very well either

It will likely cause a few wrecks in its current form

my old S does much better, not sure why the difference.

So cruise would be a handy feature to have work properly.
This alone is what we are talking about. I’d love a mode that is just straight up cruise control. Don’t think I would use it often but there may be times that I’d like to not have the vehicle make my wife shit herself when it tries to lock up the brakes.

The cruise control sucks. 1st Tesla owner here fords blue cruise is way better than what the truck currently has. That said, my trucks been in the sc longer than I’ve had it. I have been driving a loaner x with the current fsd software it is amazing. I have let it drive me close to 3,000 miles. Beats anything I’ve driven from any other manufacture by an insane margin.

You would think that Tesla will incrementally improve cruise control via upgrade of proven features of FSD.

But no siree!

I think maybe my main question is: do other teslas that have FSD have any of these phantom braking problems? Or is that not a thing on FSD. If so I can be patient - but if this persists on true autopilot that would be a major disappointment.
In earlier versions of FSD, it was a known issue and a scare the crap out of you moment for sure. That has slowly gone away and on my FSD Model X phantom braking is hopefully in the rear view mirror. I've not had a "what the hell was that' moment in a while. Like you when I got my CT and used the cruise control on the open road and it pulled that braking stunt, I just turned it off unless I am in bumper to bumper traffic I am super hopeful when 12.5 comes out all this nonsense will be behind us once again.

Cybertruck was been out for ~8 months and there are less that 30k of them. No reason to expend resources on creating intermediate releases that will soon be replaced vs focusing on 12.5 which will deploy to all models.

No issue until someone has a rear end collision from another car... It is actually a problem worse than the several other non-issues that required recalls. They should fix it by software asap.

I found recalibrating the cameras helpful. Mine was really bad post-delivery and after 2 weeks I recalibrated. Helped to reduce a majority of the phantom brakes or alerts. I try not to use it when there is crossing traffic or driving through the mountains on 2 lane roads.

I actually would take some phantom braking over my current situation. I have about 2200 miles on my CT now and for the first 1800 everything was as described in this thread. Yeah there was occasional phantom breaking which freaks the crap out of me when it happens but am certainly excited for the 12.5 and the new stack which sounds like it should improve things.

However for the past 400 or so miles my cameras have been out of alignment and doing the recalibration in the settings hasn't helped. It says they need manual calibration and unfortunately I had to drive to Kansas City (from Omaha) and back this weekend! I haven't had a vehicle without basic cruise control since my 1988 chevy pickup when I was in highschool and wow that sucks driving on the interstate and trying to maintain a speed with your ankle bones for hours on end. I wish that the CT would revert back to just basic cruise control (not traffic aware) when the cameras are not calibrated!

Oh well I have my service appointment tomorrow so should get it all straightened out.

Get ready, the fan boys are massing, like barbarians at the gate.
This is some Reddit-like comments, and adds nothing to the discussion especially on a site literally called Cybertruck Owners Club. That means a vast majority are fans.. if fanboys you don’t like, go to Facebook, Reddit, or Tesla motors.. the anti-fanboys are a plenty there
