Why shouldn't I Cancel My CT order and purchase the Chevy EV?

I’m “dumb” and bought the FS as a day one reservation holder and Tesla driver since 2013 - it’s not all about adding up the bits and pieces that come with it - many of us are looking past the "bits and bobs" and are leveraging at least one year of good times and memories on an incredible machine - I’m 4-5 months into my AWD CT ownership with camping & roadtrips in remote NM, AZ, NV, and CA so far. Time is Money (to some of us).

The Silverado EV LT and Trailboss are the ones you want. The WT and RST are not the best values

In cold climates the Silverado EV's range I consider to be a must have. I love me my Cybertruck but I'm all about the right tool for the job

The local Chevy dealer has had four Silverado EV WT on the lot for two months. Originally priced at $82k. Now discount and tax credit bring them down to $68,800. 200kw battery with over 400mile tested range and 10k tow. Zero to Sixty in 5.5 sec. larger front storage. Spare tire. Center dash display. 4WD Full Independent suspension on Eight lug rims and floating axles.

Downside -No four wheel steering by wire, Stainless, FSD, Cast unibody frame or adjustable air suspension.

I am a day one reserve and sick of waiting nearly five years while the guy down the street was dumb enough to cough up and extra 20k to jump ahead in line.

What am I missing?

GM just laid off some of their software dev team
Tesla has the industry leading software

Great chart! Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know Chevy has 2” adjustable suspension and only 1400 lbs payload, lol, seriously? 5 grown adults with some cargo will take up half of it. So much hype for all the heavy battery that gives 400+ range. IMO, if CT is not ideal, then Rivian or Lightning are the next best choices.

I’m also looking forward for Ram Charger. I have put $100 deposit but I’ll cancel soon. I’m sure it’ll give some serious competition to Lightning and Silverado.

as per EPA number alone comparison that is 340/533=0.637 or GM merely 37% less efficient than CT - with lbs 2000+ weight differences considerations that is understandable.
So, it is NOT 57% more ... Geezez Christ I almost fell off my chair if Silverado EV 4WT with additional 2000+ lbs weight for ~210-240 Wh Batteries vs 124Wh in CT + 8 Lugs vs 6 lugs , heavier duty body like a 1 tons Diesel trucks to be able to carry 9000+ lbs ( just the truck weight) + pull 10-12K lbs trailers , I think we are comparing Apples and Oranges here - These two trucks are build for very different folks with very different trucking needs - if you need to tow larger trailer and long distances GM is winner at almost half the price of CT FS and yes their software is BAD, but if looking for CT technologies (post CT FS saga) , CT is good for lighter duty trucking use cases, and occasional short distance towing with better software and tech package and lighter weight and higher efficiencies as a result . none of them are perfect - These are their first attempt in Truck EVs and one thing is certain , and both need tons of improvement / debugging / FSD to work on CT / needed - Software wise Tesla is almost always a winner and not comparable with anything out there today .... 10 years from now people will laugh at these comments , as technology is fast changing and most times improves to better humanity. Just buy whatever suits you needs best, and helps the environment compare to your other ICE vehicles.

And those conditions were what exactly? Perhaps it was flat, warm, calm, no traffic?

How do the two trucks compare in colder weather? mountainous terrain? headwind? rain? traffic? mixed speeds? I'll bet the answer is a lot closer to the EPA numbers stated by Chevy and Tesla, on average.

As a "dumb" FS owner I don't regret it for a second. I had to drive a Model S yesterday and was appalled at how boring it is (super fun car, but no CT.)

Agreed, I was fortunate enough to use a model S plaid as a loaner for a day. The speed was insane, but the ride compared to my CT wasn't even close. My CT is smoother and steer by wire made me feel like I stepped backwards with the model S. I also had to jump into my Ram 5500 to haul(because I needed a gooseneck) and felt like stepped into the stone age.

What didn’t you like about Hummer EV specifically?

I liked it way more than the Silverado. The main dislikes were: archaic user interface compared to Tesla, no ability to adjust charge amperage, and crappy app with slow responsiveness and often difficult to connect the car. That aside, the driving experience was phenomenal. Almost drifted into a traffic light bringing it home with icy roads so I put studded tires on it immediately. In cold climates one consideration is, the heavier the vehicle the harder it will be to stop a slide.

Out of principle or stubborn resentment or just plain cheap. I purchased the Silverado EV. Having driven both, I definitely enjoyed the CT more but not $32,000 more. I could wait but why. I was 58 when the CT was announced and at 63, I'm not waiting another two or three years for the price to come down or the whole market to take a major dump again. This is and will be a work/tow vehicle. The CT didn't get released with the projected 500 mile range 14,000lb tow I was counting on. So far, my only gripe are the manual seats and clumsy interface. It drives and tows better than any IC pickup I've ever owned, looks beautiful, and I still have enough cash left over for a new golf cart and fishing boat.

Go drive it, if you like it and it makes sense for you (home charging, little to no SC need) then I don't see how it wouldn't make sense. It has a massive amount of range and came in 1st in the "Out of Spec Race Motoring" Ocean to Ocean Race (FL to CA). Cybertruck came in 2nd btw.

The E3WT, 180kWh, Dual Motor, almost 400 miles range or so.

Thanks, Did and done. Very happy except no power seat. 5'8" and wish I could just raise the seat just a tad. Everything else is absolutely awesome. My wife is trying to take it over. Went on a 275 mile road trip today and got 25 miles behind the wheel. She never wants to drive! 78% charge to 23% seems like better numbers than 440 range.

Setting aside towing, where the 200+kwh pack has an advantage, what's the purpose of hauling around such a large battery?

If you like to adventure off the beaten path occasionally, the additional battery weight can make soft surfaces more challenging. And if you are going for the challenge of it, how much is that worth?

I've found the Cybertruck so easy to drive in challenging situations, it's not really a challenge. It just does it. Where's the fun in that?
