Why the ONE FINGER salute for the Cybertruck?? Top 10 reasons for the hate!

Early S, X, 3, and Y drivers reported getting flipped off and stuff tossed at them on the old reddit, teslaownersclub threads. It eventually died out as these things do. I just put it up to individuals with poor impulse control. I would do nothing to engage or react to the flippers, you don't really know what's going on under the surface................................

My X and the guy next to me with a 3 were chatting at an Alabama SuC and some pickup drove by and coal rolled us. It's happened to me a few times when I had a 3. Next time, I'm just gonna slow down and/or turn off. After watching Wham Bam Tesla Cam, way too many of these incidents involve both parties. I'm too old now to engage.

I'm on the list, expecting in Oct. of next year. I saw my first CT in person last weekend and posted it to social medial (after cleaning up my own drool). It was insane the reaction I saw. Some of you broke it down similarly, I saw the following types:
1. Anti EV (some gear heads, I have a lot of gear head friends, some conservatives)
2. Anti Elon (a lot of liberals and some that just seem to hate)
3. Some just think its ugly. I can't argue with this, though its not my own opinion... it is VERY DIFFERENT, which of course is a reason I like it.
4. Some think its just an overspend of funds, a flaunting of wealth, though the same sort of hate should be applied to any Rivian or other full sized EV pickup for the most part, plus any of your "supercars" or anybody that drives a full sized RV or rides in teh back of a stretch limo, yet here we are!

The CT, because it stands out visually, seems an easy target... this is all I can conclude. I'm not an Elon hater, though I wish he would just stay out of political stuff (JMHO). He is a hell of an engineer/CEO though.

Anti Elon isn't just from 'some just want to hate' so much as Cybertruck is a symbol of him and his spreading disinformation about topics he's admittedly disinterested in.

I don't get the whole thing to hate everything he's touched bit, but I understand as his actions on this have set up conditions under which some have been hurt or killed.

We should just accept some are angry, accept and respect it.

Ha, four or five middle fingers and a thumbs down out of the sunroof (that one was hilarious). I am in a pretty nice Western Suburb of Chicago too. Mostly truck drivers so far. Everyone in person loves it so far once you give them the full spec breakdown and demo

My response, “thanks, you know I’ve been wanting to tell you how ugly your car is for years, but I haven’t said anything out of respect for our friendship.”

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with with chargers. They are pretty crummy. I've heard that the newer galaxy phones are perfect on them(?), needs confirmation though.

It's not just newer Galaxy phones, I'm still using a S8+ that is over 6 years old and it charges perfectly in the Cybertruck! It doesn't get any warmer and charges at a similar speed to my home charger. I suspect the iPhones might need to be shimmed to sit higher in the charging area. Apple is a relative newcomer to wireless charging, I was shocked at how many years it took them to include wireless charging after it was standard fare on Galaxy phones.

Amazingly, my phone still holds a charge all day long even if I don't charge it while I drive, although I don't use my phone like it's one of the important things in my life. And it's used wireless charging exclusively, right from day one.

I made a decision very early upon receiving the truck, ignore everything, no reaction, eye straight ahead. This is for positive and negative gestures. Treat everyone the same.

People will pull along side of me trying to get my attention, and I simply just look forward and drive. I feel like a Tesla test engineer. ?

Top 10 Reasons for the hate:

1) They are jealous that you actually OWN one

2) It is simply too ugly to be on the road, its very sight is personally offensive

3) They hate on ELON for what he has done, (doesn't matter-whatever, whoever, whenever and forever)

4) It is not green enough, or it is too green

5) All EV drivers = Liberals

6) Conspicuous $$$ consumption, another rich Ferrari driver, use your money more responsibly, you rich Bastard

7) You are driving too slow in the fast lane, (and yes, there is a SPECIAL HELL for these people!)

8) They actually know a Cybertruck owner, and assume all owners are like that guy.

9) You cut them off two miles back, or another Cybertruck did two weeks ago… they all look alike.

10) It is NOT even about the Cybertruck at all, it IS directed at YOU

11) You could have Fed 1,000 homeless families with the money you recklessly spent!

On this point, my wife is a super liberal and she's very tight-lipped about her opinion on the truck but she did reveal that she doesn't really care for it the other day in a conversation. Generally speaking, she doesn't like Elon musk anymore and I've tried to point out that the dude is just a businessman and will say whatever is necessary to keep his company alive but I don't think that logic flies with many of these people.

Anyway, other people expressed how ugly it looks and have replied to them that it's okay, it's actually not as ugly as they're making it out to be and it's really a phenomenal vehicle for what it is.

But all the kids love it. Girls, boys, big kids, small kids, all of them.

Two high school boys cornered me in the swimming pool down the road to talk to me about the truck and they kept going on and on about how it must feel so good to be a multimillionaire and I had to keep telling them that it's not a million dollars to buy the damn thing.

I wonder if the reactions have anything to do with where you live? I’ve had my CT since April 30. I have universally had good reactions on the road. It’s just social media if I post a picture of it that I get criticism and hate. Living in Las Vegas. I have to build an extra time when I go places because people stopped to ask me questions about it and wanna check it out on parking lots and on the street.

It has worked.

I feel like my passengers pay attention to this more than I do because I do what you do, I just keep driving the vehicle. However, my daughter will report throughout our trip wherever we're going, how about how many eyes are looking at us and how many cameras have taken a picture. Same with other people except my wife who will particularly not report anything about it. I hope she doesn't hate the truck.
