Tesla Cybertruck Wind Deflector 20260714_151406

After getting the Urander enclosed bed cover installed as a base, I assembled this monstrosity we call (chesse) Wedgie.

Used OSB because Menards had 4x9 sheets and the final dimensions are 4.5'x9'x3' so only needed 3 sheets. Doing it in a more durable material will take six or so.

Seems to reduce Wh/mile by around 10% at 65MPH (1075 vs 1200), but that was only one test run. And I found out afterward that Teslamate had stopped logging 🤦‍♂️ (fixed that this morning).
Drafting (following distance of 7 in TACC) a semi at ~62MPH we were at 750Wh/mile 🤩.

I was thoroughly confused until I saw the last picture.

Wind deflector for Urander enclosed bed...out of OSB...on top of it 🤦

This.. is one of those times I'm going to have to come down on the side of "aesthetics is more important than efficiency". But, thinking back, I do seem to do that frequently... (AT tires, running said tires without their covers...) Maybe I'm just anti-efficiency and never realized it.

That said, I'm adopting "Frontal Dominance" as my new stage name, so this thread was totally worth it. :)

It's a prototype to see it it's worth making a pretty version 😀

Good Sir - Might I recommend a rattle can or two of black paint?
Yes, but that doesn't really seal (and would take ~5 cans just for the outer surface). Had also considered just going with rattle can bed liner. OSB needs a coat or two of oil based primer like Kilz shoved in the cracks with a stiff bristled brush followed by top coat of exterior paint.
Which I wasn't going to do until I had some actual test data. Paint costs more than the wood. It's a process, not a product.

It seems like it, but finding a semi to draft is a close contender.
How about that as an FSD setting?
Sloth, chill, standard, hurry, mad max and…draft.😂
all jokes aside though, it would be amazing to do behind a Tesla semi where the two vehicles could act together to get the benefit minus the increased risk.

Sloth and Chill are pretty conservative on passing so they'll draft a semi. I was surprised at the efficiency we had since following distance of 7 (TACC) is not at all close.

FSD Semi convoys would be cool, but a pain when merging 😉

Not if they are in the fast lane 😉
