That stinks man. These are the woes of being the early adopters. I would think insurance would cover it. In my state, windshield replacements have no deductibles, but not sure about FL. I would first try Tesla though because this is a manufacturer's defect. Good luck!
Yea my appointment is Monday morning, initially it was June 27th via the app but called instead to see if they can move it up and they did and only because they ā€œhad the parts for it, another wind shield at the SCā€ ? kind of random they would have one but I am not complaining.

Did you have any issues that you noticed in the windshield prior to it cracking? I have a defect in mine. It looks like a water mark or a long thin smudge inside the laminated glass. It is scheduled for replacement now. I was concerned that this could become a nucleation site for crack propagation as it is a defect inside the glass structure. Perhaps check the windows for any of these subtle marks.
Good point I will need to inspect the other windows just in case ??

Yea I was trying to figure where the origin was but wasn’t able to find it. I did run my fingers on the outside and it is smooth there were no rough line cracks. Inside is a different story I did feel some of the lines and I notice there were some glass shards on the dashboard. *Might be hard to see you will need to zoom in*

Sucks I can’t enjoy the CY this weekend and will need to wait till Monday for now it is just sitting on the driveway. ?
The crack on the inside pane of glass (the windshield is 2 panes bonded with a transparent plastic layer in between) means it was not from a rock chip or impact. This should mean it is fully covered under warranty.

I've been worried about this too. I keep overeat protection on as mine sits out in the FL sun. Been looking to get it tinted and some kind of shield. I have been venting the windows too but I'm sure it is just a matter of time I forget to close them and one of our FL thunderstorms comes through.

Out of curiosity which SC are you using?

Updated for all following this post:
Dropped it off and the SC was just in shock as well. Apparently this will be the first time this center will replace a CT wind shield. They told me it would be 24hr at least to be sure it is cured once installed.

I told them what happened and they have no idea themselves what could have caused it. They couldn’t figure out the origin and it was an interior damage no impact from outside.

Good news though it is covered under warranty and Tesla will cover the repairs; $2,600. Gave me an S loaner for the time being. ?? *Now I can breathe lol*

Good to know ?? Thanks!
Of course. Insurance, Sure. Won't cost you a cent, right?

Just ask your insurer or agent about the total fallout from making one legitimate claim. Lose a no-claims discount? See your rates increased -- by how much and for how long? Make any further claim and risk that at expiry-time they won't renew at all. Whereupon other insurers won't consider you for standard coverage?

I can't be more specific because every state and province, and every insurer within, is individual, but you better believe that however they do it, insurers are experts at getting their payouts back!

So I’m stuck with the Model S for another day!! Not that I’m complaining but the SC called me in the late afternoon and told me ā€œoh the replacement windshield we had has a crack in itā€ but he said they have another one in the back and will put it in tmr…… I was like how does a spare windshield have a crack already?! On top of that I asked him how does it compare to other Tesla vehicles when replacing a wind shield. He said they have to use a mechanical arm to lift it into place because it is the heaviest with the Model X being a second..

As long as they do it correctly is all that matters ??ā€ā™‚

Ah they will cover it, that's definitely a different looking crack not originating from a single impact or pressure point. It's quite involved it seems to replace the windshield on CT, requires some additional parts removal on the interior/exterior, etc. Def something that Safelite will never be doing hehe.

I donā€˜t know if an aftermarket windshield will ever be available for the CT. It’s a super large piece of borosilicate infused windshield glass.

Turned out great they pretty much had the truck Monday and I got it back Friday afternoon ?? They supercharger it to like 50% and then level 2 charged it up to 80% at the SC. Windshield is good as new!!

Tesla covered it and the loaner drop off and CT pick up was all done via app so didn’t need to talk to any advisors. They did recommend letting it cure for 24hr after I brought it back home.

Now I get to enjoy it for the weekend and then I have to drop it off at Alset for a wrap appointment… gonna be another week without the CT ?

Agree when they explained the process I was like nope nobody else can do it but Tesla unless it is a minor crack then the liquid seal will be the alternative
