Yeah, bands of roving children with bags full of ball bearings would just make toughened glass more desirable!

Some children ( and some adults too ) will not just be using ball bearings and most will not just test against tough Cybertrucks with armor glass. Non-Cybertrucks ( regular cars/trucks with regular auto glass) will "tested" with a lot of damage resulting.

problem for me is, the slogan itself is dumb and nonsensical

so you couldn’t really do anything to *prove*

case in point to me is talk of dents and scratches

on one hand, you have CT fans saying “see, it’s tough, it doesn’t dent or scratch”

to which many work truck owners would say, “it’s a truck, who gives a sh*t if it dents or scratches? - you saying the CT is a pretty-boy truck for pansies who use gel in their hair?”

to which CT fans say, “but it’s bulletproof!”

to which people who know firearms say, “nothing is bulletproof, and in this case the CT is claimed to stop normal load 9mm if shot at distance -that’s fine and all, but in the end times there’ll be AR-15s and large caliber hand guns“

To which the CT fan says, “but it has a big payload and towing stats”

to which people who really need such things say, “that’s why I buy 250/2500 trucks, or a 350/3500 dually, which makes the CT look like a payload sally and a towing tootsie”

if the back-and-forths above sounds stupid, that’s the point

It’s a stupid back-and-forth, on both sides

but if you listed to it *real* close, one theme emerges: crazy ICE truck people are going to be unconvinced by the “real tough” slogan - because they have an F350 dually dented and scratched to hell, and are proud of it

the people left most convinced about the “real tough” slogan trends to work best on people who are increasingly unfamiliar with trucks

anything deeply relevant the CT can do (eg payload and towing), there exist ICE trucks that do it better or way better

which is why Tesla needs to do it *cheaper* - that’ll be the differentiator
'DIFFERENTIATOR'
Elon: 'l take that back'
They'll make CT affordable, even without making a profit. If they have to....my hope!

Personally, I'll be disappointed if they don't successfully redo the sledgehammer and ball throw during the upcoming delivery event.

If anything, I think the only way to rectify the infamous window crack is to throw a BIGGER steel ball.
They could also include a video reel of various "durability tests" - 9mm shots, crash test, etc.

However, some of you seem convinced the Cybertruck will be less durable than originally claimed.

What would you like to see during the event that proves the CT's "really tough, not fake tough"?

window-break.gif
I think the only reason the window broke in the original test was because Franz beat the door with a sledgehammer first. They showed photos of him throwing the steel balls earlier in the day and they were bouncing off. They also showed a video of the stainless steel taking a 9mm round.

The problem with these gimmicky tests is that random idiots are going to try and reenact them on your new CyberTruck. Personally I’d rather they just move on.

Also, as far as I can tell, the glass on the CyberTruck is the same double-pane acoustic glass they use on all of their vehicles. Tesla is going to try to use as many shared materials as possible on all of their vehicles to cut costs. Making a completely new kind of glass just for one vehicle doesn’t make financial sense.

The side glass appears thicker than normal automotive glass. I’m hoping all of the windows will be dual pane for sound reduction.

Sorry but I strongly disagree with having any children involved especially really young ones.

Lots of children all over the U.S. and the world will see the video where adults are encouraging they (children) and some will think it is OK to throw steel balls or rocks at glass. For sure the really young children will not understand the concept of testing that the video is portraying.
Do you really think anyone is stupid enough to do something like that just to prove a widow is unbreakable?!?

Oh... Nevermind. ?

Something is bound to happen to result in what may be deemed a 'scratch', and then I can see some people using that against the brand.

I suppose there have been slogans such as 'built tough', 'unbeatable' etc. maybe it's ok to say 'scratch proof'
Heck remember when watches were “water proof”? Now they can go to much greater depths but are merely water resistant. I expect a company legal team would fight against calling it scratch proof without a big asterisk.

You just know that a shattered side window graphic will be offered by some clever entrepreneurs after Cybertruck sales start.

Anything is bullet proof at the right angle of incidence. Here's a balloon deflecting a tracer round. ? ?

The amount of protection that the CyberTruck will offer its occupants will be a blend of the energy of the projectile and the angle that it hits. The windshield's low rake angle means that it will prevent penetration from a wide range of: bullets, trailer hitches*, tire treads, wildlife, etc.

Should you ever find yourself in your CyberTruck, being threatened by a gunman, know that retreating on an arc that keeps your sides and front at a 45Ëš angle to the gun gives you the best chance of escaping safely. I hope you never need this advice.

Watch the Semi reveal. They are already using different glass for different vehicles. One of the upgrades to the M3+ is the "acoustic glass" goes from just the front door windows, to the rear doors and back window. They have been using different glass for years.

Problem is we don't know if the Semis actually have the armor glass, last we heard was at the reveal, it wasn't mentioned at the PepsiCo delivery event nor on Jay Leno's drive.

Buy some shattered window stickers to put on your Cybertruck door windows any time you park the Cybertruck.

A sign to passers by that your Cybertruck has already been "tested"!

Ok, but you have absolutely zero evidence it’s not. So you do have something that says yes, and nothing that says no. And again, you have at least 4 different types of glass on the current M3. (windshield, roof, front doors, rear doors and back windows.) So there is proven evidence of Tesla using different glass, even on the same vehicle. Why assume the zero evidence case?
