The comparison to other cars is very useful, thank you. As for why I asked about people keeping them, it's because I've seen several articles in the vein of this one from Forbes, which specifically says that "many 'used' CTs are virtually new vehicles or nearly new": https://www.forbes.com/sites/brooke...sla-cybertruck-market-grows---but-that-price/ There's also this story, which could be an outlier: https://www.torquenews.com/11826/it...ut-my-losses-and-move-i-cant-give-thing-away/
Chalk it up as a win for the libs. People don't want to deal with harassment/assualt/fear of vandalism so they cut their losses. Congratulations to "party of peace".

I blame Ronald Wilson Reagan for getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine ... Citizens United pretty much took care of the rest.
You’re not wrong, but the decline of journalism was accelerated by the rise of the internet and social media. Writers accustomed to having the time to cultivate a story for the morning paper found themselves competing with news spreading over Twitter instantly, and people doomscrolling on Facebook.

? agree with that. Just like Challenger, it took a shit-ton of failures/confluences to get here.

We’ve turned it into an idiotic team sport and we’re all gonna lose. Alas, we have the government we deserve. As do all people.

Even you have to admit Bob that coming on here as a new member saying you want to write an article on the CT that doesn't fall into the "stereotypical" category of all the other hit pieces out there - yet when multiple members have asked you to maybe site some of your work (which I'd assume you are proud of), or state which media you work for have entirely gone ignored seems kind of suspicious - yet you reply to other posts. Have some guts Bob, let us know who we're dealing with or that you're even a real journalist. You yourself said that you were chosen for this because you're not a car guy and your piece will be able to be unbiased - so why the smoke and mirrors? Can you at least explain that for us? Maybe more members would be willing to help out with your article as you have an entire forum of CT fans here.

You have replied to every other tangent but yet to provide any of your previous work. The state of your industry that you and your coworkers have reduced it to and blatant lies "reported" about Tesla for years, and Cybertruck in particular, make your intention defacto malicious and disingenuous. You are not doing very well changing our minds

Let me know when you'd like to talk.
Another useful idiot. Dude, turn off CCN

Hi everyone, any current or former Cybertruck owners out there willing to talk to me, a writer working on an article about the cultural impact of the vehicle? On background or anonymous is fine, if you prefer. Please let me know, and thank you!
Sure I'll contribute.
For us CT owners up here in upstate New York, where there are few CTs driving around, I have to schedule at least an extra half an hour for any local trips around here to answer all of the questions I get about "what the heaven are you driving". So I decided to list them on a card that I give out if I'm in a hurry, here it is:
Cybertruck 30 minute dissertation short form;
My 7th and last truck (previous daily drivers, all 4x4 Toyotas starting with the 1979 SR5, last Tundra, a 2014 had 220,000 miles on it), love this beast, is the future, all electric, lightning quick (0-60 2.6 sec), steer by wire progressive steering (full left to right lock 340°), 4 wheel steering (really tight turns), air suspension (17" high setting clearance), regenerative breaking (rarely use breaks), 48 volt low voltage (really small wiring harnesses), Etherloop communication, heavy duty stainless steel body, almost NO maintenance (Tires, wiper blades & fluid is about it), over the air updates, and most importantly gas pickup $60 to drive 250 miles, Cybertruck $15-$19 electricity (400 wH/mile x 250 miles at $.15-$.19/kWh) to drive 250 miles, full slow charge at home 5 hours, full fast charge at supercharger 45 minutes, and Tesla is 10-15 years ahead of everyone else.

the article: "Confirmed Cybertruck driver reports that inherent design flaws and poor engineering force owners to add at least 30 min to their every trip. The same owners, after owning many high quality very reliable trucks, complains about inadequate clearance and a steering wheel that doesn't even function properly not allowing full circle. Users also report faulty beaks that regularly fail to engage. Finally user gripe with constant painfully slow charging each requiring at least 5 hours making road trips miserable. Total failure confirmed by actual owners!"

I understand the fear of the other hit pieces, but someone made those comments. One can try to influence the narrative with positive real world stories or examples. One cannot if they just sit on the typewriter complaining about others that made comments that are used.

Someone moved my cheese. I am upset. So....

To any CT owner even slightly conservative on this list, I lasted 2 rounds of private posts with our “writer guest” before I was dismissed. He wants to characterize Elon Musk as “far right.” I will let you fill in the rest.

Just seeing the number of responses to this thread implies this guy has already won. We are on page 8.
Ignore the guy if you don’t want to be a “victim”.
An anonymous writer has you all rattled without even publishing a word.
How is this different than the many other trolls on here?

Thanks for chiming in, FlyShacker! So sorry you felt dismissed—that's definitely not my intention. Here's our conversation verbatim and in full, in case anyone is interested. I've included the questions I've been asking everyone who was kind enough to DM me, of which the last 2 are directly influenced by the conversation we've had so far on this thread. That way, anyone who wants to engage/ DM can do so knowing exactly what I'll be inquiring.

I wrote: "Thank you for replying, really appreciate your time. I'm happy to quote you with attribution, anonymously, or use what you write as background without quoting you directly, depending on what you'd prefer. Below are my questions, starting out with basic informational ones and ending with questions that have arisen as I've read through responses on the public thread. My email is [email protected], if you'd prefer to correspond that way, but replying here is great too.
Thank you again for your time!
Bob

1. How long have you had your Cybertruck?
2. What motivated you to buy it?
3. Do you like it—and if so, what do you like about it? If you have issues with the vehicle, what are they?
4. What is it like to drive it around in public—are people excited? Angry? Interested? Has anything changed over the past few months, or since you bought it? Just anything about the day-to-day of driving it around would be very interesting to hear.
5. What, if anything, makes being a Cybertruck enthusiast different from being a car or EV enthusiast more generally, or a fan of some other specific type of car?
6. Why, do you think, have people on this thread gotten so mad at the idea of a "cultural" take on the Cybertruck? Does it not deserve the attention except as yet another vehicle for sale?
7. Have you had any misgivings, even privately, about supporting Tesla in light of Elon's far-right turn? Or do you agree with those who think that a CEO's political activities should have nothing to do with purchasing/ consumer choices?"

You replied: "Well, you have said enough in your post above to convince me that you are really writing an article (or book?). But let’s get our terminology straight first. Your phrase “Elon’s far-right turn” bothers me. Who are you writing for? Please tell me what is “far right” about exposing all the fraud, abuse, and cronyism in all the hundreds of billions wasted on NGO’s, and pensions for people long dead, and hidden back room deals that make politicians millions of dollars on a salary of $200k or so?? Isn’t lack of transparency the entire problem with government? Only those who stand to lose their payoffs and under the counter gravy train should be upset. The rest of us should be cheering Elon every step of the way!! Shouldn’t we? Please answer this before we get started with your Cybertruck questions. Thanks."

To which I said: "Sorry, "far-right" is not meant pejoratively, just descriptively. Elon has aligned himself with today's GOP, becoming a de facto part of the new Trump administration. By all accounts, the GOP has moved far to the right compared to the GOP of, say, Reagan's (or even George H.W. Bush's) time. Here's a survey from Pew Research on this topic, if you're interested: https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2014/06/12/political-polarization-in-the-american-public/
Thanks again for your time!"

Your reply: "Trump brought Tulsi Gabbard and RFK Jr into his government. Both of them have been traditionally quite leftist, and I wouldn’t trust them outside of the narrow focus where Trump has them. Neither Reagan nor Bush ever would have brought such leftist figures into their administrations. So we cannot say “by all accounts” the GOP has moved far to the right. It’s really a different spectrum today. “Pro cronyism versus anti cronyism” strikes me as more accurate. “Pro wide open borders versus completely closed borders with only a few deliberate exceptions” also strikes me as more accurate. And “pro war versus anti war” is becoming an increasingly accurate spectrum between the two parties. The people attacking Elon are pro cronyism, which is inexplicable to me. I was born in Los Angeles, California, and lived in that state, both southern and northern, all my life until my late 60s when my wife and I couldn’t stand the decay and leftist insanity any longer. Now we live in North Idaho, which feels more like the Southern California of my youth than California has been for many decades. So, I’m sorry, I am not going to accept your characterization of Elon nor of the GOP. Not doing well so far."

Finally, I said: "Thanks for your time, and your responses! Have a great day."

I myself am what most people would describe as left leaning and even to me the language and tone you are using is far from impartial.
If your goal was to meander into a community you thought was largely conservative and elicit a reaction from its most defensive members to support your misconceptions, congratulations, you’re a big success.
Your self perception of keen intellect and journalistic prowess led you to believe you understand the anticipated demographic of a community of vehicle owners so well you didn’t need to do any real research, but the reality is that my seven year old has a more nuanced understanding of who it is that buys and cherishes a Cybertruck than you have demonstrated.
No employed writer uses this as a “research technique” anonymously on the web. If you are an employed writer, someone should talk to your boss. This is likely not what they think they are paying for.
Your “article”’will most likely be as even handed as your disrespectful posts.
Good luck with it, I know I won’t be reading it.
As for cultural impact, what’s perhaps most fascinating about the Cybertruck is the effect this inanimate object has had on flushing out self serving opportunists who don’t care about promoting an atmosphere of division and contention in our country as long as they either get paid or promote their own reputation doing it.
The real enemy of America today is division and hate generated by people who are too simple to do anything but categorize Americans into one of two groups. left and right, red and blue, Tesla buyers or Ford buyers etc.
You and the article you’re trying to write my misguided friend are part of that problem.
Buy a Cybertruck or don’t buy one. Leave those of us both bold enough and capable enough to vote our convictions with our wallets alone.
I meant what I said about how you already won several posts ago and I would not respond, but I feel compelled to defend my conservative friends on whom you are trying to prey.
