That’s not really off-road! Any passenger vehicle could drive there easily.
Nice of the guy to run the video but not impressive from an offroading perspective. I'd love to see the Cybertruck take on some knarly terrain.
There is a ghost town in central California that is (maybe was) 13 miles off the highway. It was 13 miles of really, really rough dirt road. Took an hour plus to get there. We drove there in an RV, so any car would get there. But those in really capable trucks could get there in half the time, and far more comfortably. Sometimes it's not just whether this is the only way to get there, but how easily and comfortably you get there.

I don't doubt that in the least bit, and now that I am a bit older it is mostly likely the scenario of reality for me. The Rivian video showed that, even though what they were driving in was just a fire road, it was still bumpy. That said, I would still love to see [someone else] conquering some really challenging terrain with the Cybertruck. Just to know that it can ...

Most people don't understand about new vehicle testing. This is a new product to be introduce to consumer. There are different test, not all at the same time. Tesla is collecting data for all type of tertian separately for the program setting. Let wait and enjoy the video as they are available. For those who complain about not rough enough, have at it when you have your CT.

Oh, ye of little faith. Seriously, I'm not religious at all, I don't want to take things on faith. But it's a pretty near a certainty that Cybertruck will put 4x4 ICE pickups of the same size in their place on firm terrain off-roading. If not, Tesla screwed up in an uncharacteristic manner. The low center of gravity of a Tesla is a huge advantage right off the start. It's a lot easier to tackle the big challenges when you are not so worried about tumbling down the rocky slope. A light ICE pickup will have the advantage in any situation where floatation is important, deep, fine sand, thick "bottomless mud", etc., particularly since they are more likely to be equipped with x-wide tires. These soft situations are rare in the western part of the country, unless you are trying to search out mud and bogs. I've always been drawn to hard ground four-wheeling, especially if it's slippery from leaves and needles and rain and clay, sometimes even snow and ice.

Hard ground is common when adventuring on old, abandoned roads that no longer have regular access due to washouts or missing bridges. They might have been used for mining or logging, or crude access to a remote cabin or campsite. This is what excellent off-road capability means to me: the ability to get through difficult challenges that may present themselves on backcountry roads/routes. Most of the route could be navigated by a Toyota Corolla, but it's one or more gnarly washes or steep slides or creek crossings or some deep ruts that will stop normal vehicles in their tracks.

I'm into four-wheeling for the sake of getting people and gear to new places that are inaccessible to most people unless they want to hike, not picking a difficult route to a place that has much easier access on a different route, just to challenge my off-road skills. I mean, that's good practice and training, but, for me, the prize, the real motivation behind four-wheeling, is getting to wild places that have difficult access and remote areas that are little visited.

I haven't driven a Rivian but I'm pretty disappointed in the hard-surface traction I've seen in several videos. I wonder if the Youtubers just don't know how to adjust the traction settings, or if Rivian just hasn't got around to optimizing the off-road traction controls yet. The videos make it obvious that, even on the four motor versions, the motors are sending only limited torque to the loaded wheels, much like a limited slip differential.

Our early production Tesla's kept getting better traction after delivery. Traction was very good fresh off the production line but the more difficult edge cases improved with future software updates. Track Mode was added to my Performance Model 3 around a year or more after delivery.

I fully expect Cybertruck will be very capable out of the box and get significantly better in the first year or so.

We of course don't know which parts of HH the truck visited, but it certainly has trails and obstacles that can challenge most 4x4s.

It definitely would have been cool. They can make the stage look all spooky and stuff...

But unfortunately...

Hollister has more than dirt roads - there's just no footage of the CT on the good stuff!
