Benefit to unpainted CT. I don’t like paint on trucks. I use Linex, no paint no scratches.

More seriously: what’s the current thinking on how this SS body is treated/coated to avoid it doing SS ‘tings?

Should we buy stock in …

Ok, here's an idea. Some (show) trucks have flames painted on the front.

How about a vinyl wrap that looks like the starship heat tiles? Only on the front of course. Could even make the leading ones red.....

Stainless: no coatings required
Is it? Maybe I’m confusing other types of SS with that the CT will use, but I otherwise still feel I’m not fully grasping the purported durability of the SS in these ways.

@CyberGus is it you with the DeLorean? Suppose you have the best insight, if so.

But my indirect experience includes a SS hot tub, SS cookware, SS gym equipment, a dozen SS sinks, and some prior years in commercial kitchens - all leaving uncertain of this purported durability. I’ve found that while SS may be harder to stain/damage in some respects, once it is stained/damaged it’s a real b*tch to remedy.

Not going to keep me from buying one, but not going to have me marching into it care-free. What am I missing?

Stainless steel is obviously not indestructible, but the high-chromium surface that makes it so shiny is resistant to adhesion. You can wax it, or polish with oils, and it will look very shiny. It will also attract every spec of dust and dirt within a 30m radius and then become smeared in vertical streaks when it gets wet. It's also very difficult to paint.

You can mostly neglect the exterior finish on a SS vehicle, unlike the painted alternatives that require constant maintenance. Traditional treatments like waxing are not helpful, while horrific things like solvents, acid-wash, or sandpaper are instead prescribed.

To keep that factory-fresh look, a PPF is ironically required. Otherwise the surface will develop a patina over time, which I'm personally looking forward to happening on mine.
