There won't be much of a demand for 48V accessories if there is no access point for 48V. If there IS an access point for 48V, I wonder what plug they'll standardize. I suspect Tesla will have the same USB and 12V access points everyone else has. Well, has Tesla ever offered a 12V access point? I don't remember my MY having one...

Sees to me the standard is obvious. Look at the last row in this table.

Tesla Cybertruck 48v Battery for Cybertruck! 1678215008920

I donā€™t get the 48 V architecture. Will it make my headlights brighter or my stereo sound better ?? The world is set up for 12 V. That means all the accessories are 12 V all the stereo equipment is 12 V everything Electrical is 12 V .I donā€™t understand what Teslaā€™s doing ?What does 48 V do for me. What was the problem with the old system? please enlighten me. also, when Iā€™m out on a road trip and my car breaks down or something burns out ,itā€™s gonna be next to impossible to get parts out on the road

Here's a pretty good explanation. It sounds as though the march to smarter more energy demand in vehicles has brought about the need to go to 48v. And this is the start of the change.

ā€œThe worldā€ uses a variety of voltages. Motorcycles were formerly 6v, and 24v is used on some RV, truck, and marine applications.

itā€™s not like you can swap the Tesla infotainment system for a Blaupunkt anyway lol

This is a "cigarette lighter" in the center console. It's amazing how many owners don't realize it's even there. I found it in my hubby's M3 when I bought him a compressor for the inevitable slow tire leaks. My 22 Model Y has the 12V outlet as well. I have a dual USB outlet in mine most of the time and I charge my airmoto that way. So glad Tesla included the ciggie light outlet.

Change is the only constant, yes? It reduces the amount of wiring in the car. Saving copper is a good thing. As Sandy Munro said, the auto industry has been talking about it for 30 years and it's high time someone took the plunge. Others will follow, the market will catch up.

It makes the truck easier to build and repair. It is also lighter.

I donā€™t use many 12v accessories any never really have so hard for me to judge how big a deal that is. You can step the voltage down at the point of use though.

I hope the CT doesn't have a cigarette lighter socket. It may be convenient for legacy accessories but it's freaking ancient.
I want to feel like I'm in the future, not like I'm trying to dial in the AM radio to listen to FDR update me on those dastardly Germans.
You can deliver 48v over USB C just fine.

Sandy Monroe mentioned that he wants them to bring back AM radio in Tesla vehicles.

Agree. They can just standardize on USB-C most places which has a 48v mode already and is a good connector. If people want 12v they can get an adaptor for converting USB-C to the old school adaptor.

The fact that the old adaptor was originally designed for a cigarette lighter says a world about how relevant and modern it is.
