As long as I can slide through the opened rear window to get to the bed, I will be happy with that. I just hope it isn't a super narrow window which will prevent access to most average size adults.
the few mentions i have seen about the pass through to the bed capability is that it probrably won't happen due to liability of the automated tonneau cover... with the cover comming down behind the back seat anything in that pass through zone would be at risk if the owner tries to raise or lower the cover.

and i know it is easy to say well that is the moron drivers fault.. however some suite would fire up a class action law suite.

It would be easy enough to disable the cover motor if the back window is not closed completely. Kinda like, you can’t “start” the car and put it in gear when there is a power cord attached. (Unlike all the YouTube videos of people driving off at the gas station with the hose still in the tank)

Remember the Tesla Bot actuator that could lift a grand piano. This technology could be used for the CT.

It would make a lot of sense with the Cybertruck being a 5-seater now.

If they do intend that as a step, there won't be a cable: you would definitely trip on it trying to use the step. Looks like the cable was just a convenience on the early prototypes and maybe they go with the powered gate plus ramp for production?
The patent has the cable.

interesting post release add on... add in bed based seats... a row of seats that can attach to the bed somhow and seat 2 or 3.. the only real issue i can see would be safety.. no roll cage to protect em.. so that might be a REALLY bad idea..

Regarding the ramp... doesn't it look like the top of the tailgate could separate from the lower body and contain a ramp? The gate would not also not need to be that thick if it didn't need to hold a ramp? Maybe I'm just wishing... but I'm sure hopeful!

I think the ramp will be an option. Hardly worthwhile the cost of putting in 1 million ramps if only 5% of people need it.

For RV'ers, on a rare occasion it would be handy, but would probably be easier for me to keep a box in the back and use that as a step.

So um....

I know people are talking abut the ramp and personally I think the ramp will end up being present. But it makes me wonder about the cable in this patent image that is stabilizing the tailgate. If the ramp is a thing, how does the tailgate get lowered to the right angle for the ramp given that there is a static cable that is maxed out when the tailgate is horizontal?

Seems like either the cable can't be in the production version, or if the cable is there and works like we see in this illustration, then in order to get the ramp to be angled, the CT would need to be squatting in the back using the air suspension.

Thing about the squatting though is that then the whole bed of the truck will be at an angle. Might work well for loading some things but could really suck for using the ramp during a home move where everyone is walking up and down the ramp to load boxes but also lamps and other tall skinny things that will tip over or roll.

Good question.

Old school, the cable would detach and you could lower it more or pop the tailgate off entirely.

I’m not so sure on this.

Though I’m neither here nor there on the ramp so.

remember them showing off the ramp at the reveal?
remember Elon talking about how he hates companies that show cool features during a reveal that never make it to production?

Pretty sure we will have a ramp. Powered.. not sure i care but it shouldn't be a huge feat of engineering

In the original even there was a powered ramp in so much as there was a "guy" in a helmet that would raise and lower the ramp for you. Perhaps our CTs come with an Optimus to do the raising and lowering (among other things).

I don’t remember that

I remember Musk talking to Jay Leno, who asks Musk how close will this look to production.

“It always drive me crazy when manufacturers would come out with this cool looking show car, and the actual production car would be way worse. Like man you got us all excited about this sweet looking car then production was terrible. We won’t do show cars that aren’t real.”

He then immediately goes on to talk about how production CT needs to be about 5% smaller.

Is there another statement by musk along these lines, but about features?

Because he’s also later shown pre-production vehicles with only 5 seats, not an SS bed, no apparent sail storage, etc.

Not at all to dump on the production CT, as it’s (for me) more than made up for this in other features that weren’t on the original prototype. And some of those original features were just bad ideas (SS bed).

But I do see folks sometimes using as some first principle that Tesla would never backtrack on a feature. I don’t see why.

I couldn’t argue with the possibility that Tesla may at some point offer the ramp as an option. Even that seems unlikely to me, but hey, who knows.

But to add the mechanical complexity, parts, and significant weight, of such a ramp seems… unlikely.

This is how the 2019 prototype worked, also.
